Ole Miss was #4 in total offense this season averaging a little over 500yds per game. In the SEC. I'll take that any day.

And don't get me started on Bookie. Kid was a punk and was extremely overrated. Not sure what kept him on the field outside of his 5 stars and large social media following. SMH.
Bookie was extremely good at two things: 1) Performing major celebrations when a receiver he completely lost in coverage didn’t make a catch, as if he contributed and 2) Getting an unsportsmanlike penalty.

LR’s teams had no discipline and it really came to a head this year when you saw poor decision making in every single game. LR was also lauded for his recruiting, but almost none of his prized recruits panned out or contributed, so he seems incapable of properly developing them. Someone said on a podcast earlier this month that when our players got to the NFL over the last two years, many of them had to be taught how to play football.

What I like about Jeff Lebby is that his offenses are not only very productive, they feature the run and have done it with great success.

In tight games, you absolutely have to be able to run the ball. The Sooners were getting progressively worse in this department and it really came home to roost this season.

There is going to be some pain in the next season or two due to recruiting and player losses, but heading into the SEC something had to change. And these hires are with the increased competition in mind.

Lots of people think the combination of Venables and Lebby represents a significant coaching upgrade from Riley/Grinch.
I definitely agree. Somehow we lost someone that was widely considered a top 5 coach and in a little over a week, managed to upgrade our staff. Not bad. Add in bringing back Schmidt and Dennison as the S&C coaches and it's a major upgrade so far. Should be interesting to see how BV fills out his defensive staff.

the rest of the staff need to fill out ... but to me it is very clear that

    Brent V/Lebby/Smitty is better then .. Lincoln/Grinch/Wylie

I'll never forget Bookie's tweet after the Mike Stoops debacle after OU-Texas.

"It's different when you love the coach you playin for."

He then went on to underperform for every DC after Stoops got canned.

Yeah, Riley can definitely recruit these 5 star primadonnas but obviously has some issues with development. Interesting about our NFL players needing to get taught when they arrive in the league. Makes sense though, just look at Tre Norwood.

I'm no bookie fan but he read a screen better than anyone I've seen at OU in a while. He also was pretty good on slot receivers on slant routes but that was about it.

As for Lebby. his stain from Baylor is a hard pill to swallow. He wore #CAB shirts after Briles was fired and has routinely stood up for him(son in law or not). He is cited as having received a complaint at Baylor and did nothing about it. I hope he works out but I don't like the stain/stench he still has from all that went down at Baylor.

I read on the Ole Miss sites that Lebby was vetted and declared clean as far as they were concerned. Hypel hired him at UCF also. Sooo.

Heartland Sports has changed their headline from "OU to Hire Lebby as OC" to OU Hires Lebby as OC " for what that's worth.

Edit: ESPN is also saying a deal has been reached.

Also learned that Lebby run offenses have been top 5 the last 5 years. I would say that makes him a top OC.

A victim of domestic abuse reported it to Lebby and he made the player workout more as punishment. He did not report it to the police. Moreover, he was part of the disgusting culture at Baylor and was a Briles apologist even after the facts were clear. Hiring him is a stain on OU.

God forbid they ever propose meaningful legislation, but this isn't the politics thread so I digress...

Two other high level schools investigated him and felt comfortable enough with what they found to hire him, one of which involved Josh Heupel giving the green light. Those schools had much more to lose at the time and wouldn’t have hired him if he had a major role in what happened at Baylor. Joe C also investigated him and felt comfortable enough to make the hire. Heupel is someone I’ve always seen as being morally sound and Joe C has a strong moral compass and has been overly cautious for the most part (Allowing Mixon to return being this one major blemish imo). I’ll trust them over message board warriors and twitter posters who skimmed over the details of the Baylor situation any day. The sins of the father (or father-in-law in this case) are not the sins of the son. Briles was the one who failed to report and even he was cleared by the NCAA. To act like Lebby is the equivalent of hiring Briles or is as culpable as culpable as Briles, is ridiculous. He doesn’t deserve to completely have his career ruined because of something he had little control over. He’ll always have an opportunity to blow his second chance but he’s been a model citizen at his last two jobs. He’s an OU guy and Venables runs a tight ship. Highly doubt there will be any issues here.

As far as being an “apologist” the guy defended his wife’s dad based on his experience. I’m sorry but I’m just not going to fault someone for that (at least not enough to say they should be denied employment).

Also, I believe he told the victim to report it to law enforcement so that they could handle/investigate it, did he not? Did the victim ever report it? Was he supposed to presume his players were guilty until they were proven innocent just because someone told him something happened. How would he have known they were credible if they never made a police report? Why was a football coach the only person at Baylor they told? Universities have entire student affairs, compliance and security departments for those types of issues. You should always listen to the victim but do you automatically assume the accused player, that he knew much better than the the woman involved, was guilty if he denies it? I get the hesitation and concern but I think acting like this is some black and white scenario with regards to the subordinates under Briles isn’t necessarily fair. Frankly seems a lot like jumping to conclusions for the sake of making a “woke” comment. Saying you have concerns is fair and warranted until we get a chance to hear from both Joe C and Lebby. Saying that “it’s a stain in the university” seems like an attention seeking, self righteous and frankly ridiculous thing to say when the University hasn’t even formally announced the hire yet. I’m sure the view up there is nice, but how about you climb back down here for a minute and hear them out before acting like they just hired Jeffery Epstein.

If not, the word is that Lebby will bring in Dillon Gabriel from the portal. Doesn’t necessarily have the untapped upside potential of CW but is further along in his growth as a college QB and is a very good second option. So I obviously hope CW stays but if he doesn’t, we should still be okay.

They offered Nick Evers yesterday. Can't get enough quality at the QB position.
