OKCPS is mandating masks in all buildings, buses and school events, effective Monday.
I just read the story on KFOR. It says Senate Bill 658 prohibits school boards from mandating masks. So the Superintendent made the mandate. Technicality but hey why not!
So now we get tons of people claiming "sincerely held religious beliefs" that prevent them from wearing a mask. Be interesting to see what religions actually, really, truly state somewhere in their scripture that their god/belief says it's against their religion to wear one.![]()
And now the SCOTUS has weighed in, with a good decision. Still don't understand a religious or ethical exemption to it, though - I know they had to be in there to make sure it stands, but ethically opposed to mask-wearing, really?

Maybe we should close schools down again if were that worried about it. That be a better argument grounded in scientific reality. 30 plus kids, in the same room for 8 hours a day are not going to get covid? Please...
I heard you can survive being in the reactor room of Fukushima for 8 hours if you have a good enough radiation suit. Anyone want to perform a live experiment? For Science!
If you vaccinate teachers and have kids in masks you can absolutely limit the spread of COVID among the population. For example, schools in NC employed masking strategies and had a secondary attack rate of only 1%, which is incredibly low and can keep schools open and safe: https://abcsciencecollaborative.org/...KZ-6-29-21.pdf
There were many many schools across the country who implemented mask and distancing policies when returning to in person class last year and, in doing so, they avoided outbreaks and community spread.
I have actually seen it first hand. There were cases for sure, but no spread among the students at school, where they followed guidelines.
It's super simple. The kids easily and willing followed the procedures. It protected them and kept them in school. Everybody wins and no one had any stupid political whining about it, because they were focused on the kids education, and safety, as well as the safety of their families, not some facebook meme.
At this point, it really isn't that hard. Wearing a mask won't hurt kids. Losing a loved one will, especially if it's because some meathead politician wanted to score points by prohibiting schools to implement policies to protect their health.
Not to mention, teaching them a deep disdain for their own communities.
Despite all the whining, there are a lot of kids that are learning the value of empathy and doing simple things for their close community and loved ones. Many do, in fact, understand why they're making sacrifices for the public good and are willingly and proudly participating.
Maybe we'd gain some ground if we paid less attention to the meatheads, and instead celebrated those who are acting responsibly and honorably to help lessen some suffering in their community. Maybe common courtesy will actually become more common.
that was before delta... you are correct in your statement if you end the entire covid comparison in may of 2021.

but lets just assume that it has all been the same from the beginning sure.
First press conference just wrapped up from OSDH since July. Some things that stood out.
No new Emergency Order but the new guidelines from the OSDH will allow hospitals to do some surge planning as well as report numbers again.
Same thing about personal responsibility and masks.
Dr. Frye said that all questions were answered by their department when the press asked, half the room then proceeded to show all the times they asked the OSDH things and they said no comment or didn't reply. Not a great look.
