Holy cow, Florida had 8,200 cases just today.
For the week, they had over 20% of all the cases in the entire country.
You think that is bad. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-57867990...XnY9LjmTMIpUnc And it's a well vaccinated country. I guess the only silver lining is hospitals are down for now at least.
2,126 new cases (3-day total); that's almost double last Monday. As recently as 6/14, the 3-day total was 123. Nearly a 20-fold increase in just a month!
381 in the hospital; that's up from 202 last Monday and a low of 108 on 5/25.
ICU is 118; up from 74 last Monday and a low of 30 on 6/6.
Get your bloody vaccination!
Everybody says they want their 'freedom' but all they have to do is get a harmless, plentiful free shot and this thing would almost completely go away.
As it is, we are going to be back to wearing masks and lots of businesses are going to get hurt (like live music and bars & restaurants).
It's so completely idiotic. The lockdowns and restrictions (followed by trillions in government rescue money) were to get us to the vaccine. Now that we're there, half the country won't bother to get it. Unbelievable.
If your unvaccinated...Your probably going to eventually get it.
If your vaccinated... There is a good chance you will get it again, but not get it that bad. There is a chance you could still get it bad though depending on who you are and your age.
If you already had covid naturally, the above is the above applies to you too.

Almost nobody in the hospital or that ended up dead has been fully vaccinated.
The rapidly rising hospital numbers are by far the worst indicator, and those always are a lagging indicator to the case numbers.
I really have sympathy for the hospital workers. They have to suit up like they are going on a space walk... And then have to care for very critically ill patients who could have just had a jab to avoid their situation.
Maybe not in Oklahoma, but it's already happening in some U.S. states.
And you still have to wear one in airports and on planes. You can bet some businesses will start requiring them again.
You can't just shrug it off. There is a tremendous cost to businesses, our economy as a whole, our healthcare system, and an impact on our hospital capacity.
It's going to get much, much worse in the fall and winter, especially with schools restarting and the cold weather driving more people indoors.
I know of 2 of us that are in that count, vaccinated, and with symptoms. Not in the hospital though so I guess so far the vaccine is doing what it was claimed to do.
Keep in mind that even for the vaccinated, the more unvaccinated people that carry the disease means there will be more breakthrough cases.
The percentage of vaccinated people who contract and get very sick from Covid-19 will remain low, but the raw numbers are going to go up simply because of all the fools who refuse to get the shots.
You can't just sit around and say, "I'm fully vaccinated so I'm completely safe" if we continue on this strong upward trend.
2-3% of a small number yields a small number. 2-3% of a big number starts to be a serious problem.
Amazing how things turn out exactly how the scientists who have been studying this variant say they will turn out. And yet, you have Okies somehow expecting a different outcome with the same virus and similar circumstances. "It is more transmissable." Check. "It affects the young more than previous variants." Check. "It almost entirely impacts those who are not vaccinated." Check. "If enough people don't get vaccinated we will have another surge in cases, deaths, and hospitalizations." Check.
Shall I go on?
And yet, I was trying to sift through relevant football-related content on another blog site (for those who care, The Football Brainiacs), to read about the big OU football recruiting weekend, and instead I was treated to totally unmoderated vaccine and virus deniers spewing debunked nonsense and linking to "articles" from completely non-credible sources. I instantly clicked off the site in disgust.
Honestly this is at least 40% of Okies at this point, if not more. We need to get to at least 70% vaccinations to get close to herd immunity here and yet you have recalcitrant idiots, citing either a past Covid infection or some other dubious argument, refusing to take a free and safe shot. It is borderline nihilistic.
It’s hard not to feel a sense of malaise and nihilism about this wave, and the vaccine hesitancy situation in general. It just does not bode well for the future of public health across large swaths of this country, much of this state included.
This will likely continue to be an anchor on our economic recovery relative to many other states, as well.

Fauci said that if we had experienced the same level of idiocy and outright misinformation that we do now in a previous era, we would have never defeated polio. Fortunately people were apparently not the raging selfish idiots they are today.
He is right... Back then the population trusted it's leaders more than today. Is this a result or poor leadership, or access to the internet, or foreign propaganda? I don't know. What I do know us is that a large portion of the population finds the idea that the government is out to harm them more believable than that the government is out to help them.
This topic should be researched and plans should be made to bring the population back to a condition like we had during the fight against polio. I think this is something we can all agree on.
As the infected numbers increase, the market takes a dive.

Stocks, oil prices and government-bond yields slid Monday as anxiety mounted over the spread of the Delta coronavirus variant and its potential impact on the global economy.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average slumped about 725 points, or 2.1%.

And this is just a very smart part of why even if you are vaccinated, the people who refuse to get a simple shot can still cause a ton of harm.
This goes all the way back to Reagan's pithy little saying, "The scariest 9 words in the English language are I'm with the government and I'm here to help". And it continues today with Lauren Boebert prancing on the stage at CPAC saying "We don't want your welfare or your benefits. We don't want your Fauci ouchies".
