Yeah, I feel bad saying this, or even thinking this, but at this point I just kind of say to myself “if the unvaccinated get really sick and get on a ventilator and struggle to breathe and throw up a bit and some of them die, maybe the reality will come into focus for people and at least the deaths will have meaning.
1,200 new cases since Friday. Not great.
Highest weekend (3-day) total since March.
2nd highest was last Monday.
Also, hospitalizations are up to 220; low was 106 on 6/13.
ICU is 74, up from a low of 29 on 6/3.
Very bad trend considering we will be going to full school attendance starting next month with football season (and full stadiums) start soon as well.
The top five states in terms of percentage increase of new COVID-19 cases are also among the states with the lowest vaccinations rates:
State New COVID-19 cases Fully vaccinated percentage
Arkansas 3,325 (101% increase) 34%
South Carolina 1,117 (60% increase) 39%
Kansas 1,211 (58% increase) 42%
Mississippi 1,349 (51% increase) 33%
Louisiana 3,039 (47% increase) 35%

Long-term, this just can’t be good for recruiting doctors and nurses. Who would want to work in an area that could well have to deal with COVID indefinitely due to 40-50% of the population not wanting to get vaccinated?
Debunking doesn’t work and often hardens the misinformation in those dedicated to it.
The newsmax guy saying vaccines are “against nature” because viruses are “supposed to wipe out a certain amount of people” is pretty weird. Aside from the pandering to the antivaxers, he’s also saying the virus is supposed to wipe out newsmax’s core demographic.”
It would be hilarious if he’d followed it with “Now a program note…Newsmax special, “creative ways to own the libs by killing yourself and your family coming up after this program.”
I should say, “government debunking.” The number of people who are “I won’t do what “they” tell me is disheartening.
From the CDC, "Among the 18 to 39-year-olds, the rates were lowest for those who were younger, black, poorer, less educated, uninsured and living outside metropolitan areas."
I have never watched newsmax, but I assume thier demographic is young, poor, and living outside metropolitan areas? Is that correct or is it something else?
Enclosed spaces are still setting off my hypervigilance.
At the doctor office, in the waiting area today. Woman, unmasked, starts hacking , I feel my fight or flight response trigger.
I'm wearing a mask, but wanted to get away, get out of there!
A couple minutes later was taken to dr. Office.
Gonna take some time for me to re- adjust.
Rising numbers of cases aren't helping...
Another day of nearly 1,100 new cases, spiking the 7-day daily average from 364 to over 500. 3-day average hospitalizations have increased to 271 from 166 just a week ago. 13 more deaths added to the provisional count, I assume from long ago. We are now seeing the price of free, life-saving vaccines becoming a partisan issue in an attempt to score political points. Not good...
Are the feds still covering the medical bills of COVID patients? Pretty sure that needs to stop.
It costs $160K for more than a day on a ventilator at Integris Baptist according to their pricing chart. We shouldn't have to pay that cost for folks who chose not to become vaccinated.
^^ As satisfying as that might sound, if we started refusing to cover medical costs for those that engaged in risky behaviors the hospitals would be empty. Plus, the tricky problem that there are folks who've been unable to get vaccinated for medical reasons, as well as break through cases. Otherwise, I'd be fine to let Darwinism do it's job.
The Frontier just re-initialized their daily Covid tracker (yay......), here: https://www.readfrontier.org/stories...g-in-oklahoma/
Because of the change in reporting schedule I've been having a hard time following along through OSDH's site. But the Frontier site is much clearer.
Which again sounds satisfying, but it's not much different than trying to justify forced sterilizations for those on public assistance and who have kids.
I'm all for us taking every step we can to encourage folks to get vaccinated, including having vaccinations be a requirement for travel or for attending large events or school. But that's a far cry from forcing folks to undergo medical procedures, or tying someone's submittal to what should be a voluntary procedure as a requirement to get life saving help/assistance. That's a precedent I'm not sure we should set, and would most likely penalize the poorest and least educated among us.
Plus, it would have an effect of discouraging some folks from getting help, with makes contact tracing and more so much more difficult. And that makes it less safe for everyone.
It's not a hard fast rule, but I believe most transplant hospitals require 6 months of sobriety for a liver transplant, although I know they make exceptions for extreme cases. Lots of times it comes down to how influential your doctor is. But, this is more because selection committees in transplant programs are dealing with more applicants than there are available organs. It makes sense here because there is a limited supply. When we get to where we are 3d printing replacement organs (or whatever technology will present in the nearish future) I expect even this requirement will go away.
This week's new cases (through Friday): 3,925; Last six weeks: 1,648; 1,270; 1,151; 1,141; 842; 775.
Hospitalizations are 323; last six Fridays: 208, 139, 129, 137, 106, 109.
ICU is 111; last six Fridays: 66, 41, 36, 52, 32, 30.
Things are rapidly getting out of control.
