I'm probably opening up a can of worms. And maybe this has been done but I can't find anything. So. When we feel really comfortable doing so we want to go to an upscale steak place and have an expensive evening to celebrate. We've only done anything like this once at Castle Falls because we won a raffle. Never with us footing the bill. So the question is: if you were probably having a once in a lifetime dinner would you go to Mahogany, Red Prime, The Ranch or ?.

Nonesuch. We had reservations there for June last year. Cancelled and will do it in June this year (it's our anniversary). We're going to Frida for our first nice place out after we both get our 2nd shots, never been there.

Bill, unless you are set on steak, you might consider the Jones Assembly. Just an amazing setting and their food is excellent.

A second for Nonesuch but for steak my personal preference is Mahogany.... In fact Mahogany was our first meal out for our two year anniversary on the 14th.... Going to Nonesuch on the 22nd next month for our second meal out.

I will warn you up front... Nonesuch for 2 with the wine pairing is going to set you back over $400 but it may be one of the best meals you've ever eaten..... Unless you are a picky eater.... Then you're going to waste your money.

Hey Bill, my advice is Mahogany downtown. I *loved* Nonesuch when I went with my wife. However, if you're in the mood for a big steak dinner the experience at Nonesuch may disappoint. If you and your wife are foodies who appreciate new tastes or unique dining experiences then Nonesuch would be perfect. It's a one-off experience and their tasting menu can compete with high-caliber restaurants across the nation. Just don't go to Nonesuch expecting to leave stuffed - it's not a meat and potatoes kind of shop.

Do yourself a favor and head up to Living Kitchen Farms in Depew, OK. An amazing experience but you will need to plan ahead. Reservations for the summer go on sale April 3rd. I believe there are still some openings for April and May available - it's possible I am going to have to rehome my April 24 reservation for 4. Stay tuned. If you don't want to drive home, the Happy Hermit is a nearby AirBnB that is a lovely choice.

If you're set on steak either Mahogany or the Ranch are the best and most consistent of the prime steakhouses. If you're looking for a more eclectic experience check out Grey Sweater or None Such as mentioned.

Wife and I went to Nani which was the first version of Nonesuch and it was an awesome experience. Nonesuch is probably the only restaurant in the state that has people flying in from other places to experience. For a "night to remember" I would put it at the top of the list. Everyone has covered the steak options. We rarely go eat out for steak since we do that at home a lot but the Ranch and Red Prime are my favorites although we haven't gone to either in about 3 years.

I fell for OKC. I dug the low-slung brick buildings and the neon signs advertising laundry services and dive bars. I loved the airy art-filled 21c Museum Hotel where I stayed. I saw the same creative energy I see in Houston or Nashville at a new spot called Bar Arbolada, which was bustling with cool kids sipping cucumber daiquiris and cans of rosé. There was a cultural and culinary buzz beginning to simmer. Could Nonesuch be the restaurant to put OKC, which as far as I could tell was still heavy on steaks and onion burgers, on the national dining map? I’d seen my share of ambitious, inexperienced chefs try to transform tradition-bound restaurant scenes and fail colossally. I had my doubts.

Nonesuch is challenging food for any city. The fact that these chefs have chosen to stay in OKC and not flee to a city like Austin, where many talented local chefs end up, makes it all the more impressive. Their job is to feed people, yes, but I get the sense that they really love changing people’s attitudes about food. “Some folks come in, cross their arms defensively, and want to hate everything,” Wolfe says. “And then halfway through the meal they are smiling and laughing with you and really loving it. That’s my favorite thing to witness.” When I asked Stringer about his motivation, he paused for a moment. “It’s the transformative power of it,” he said. “You serve a heart dish and a lot of folks roll their eyes or make a face. Then you look over ten minutes later, and they’ve eaten all of it, and they’re beaming. I like that food has that power over people. That’s why I cook.”

If there’s one thing I’ve learned after crisscrossing the country in search of memorable food for almost 20 years, it’s that greatness exists everywhere—it just needs risk-takers to make it happen. “I won’t pretend everyone here gets Nonesuch, but those guys have willed a Michelin-caliber restaurant into reality through passion,” explains Blair Humphreys, a local developer and Nonesuch regular. He’s right. All it takes is three people who believe in what they do and do it (well) with conviction. It also helps if you have someone who sells a lot of waffles to believe in you and back you."

Nani was such a cool experience, and I kick myself for only going once as that was my first step into the tasting menu experience (and up there with some of the more memorable considering it was so unique). We've been to Nonesuch twice - the first experience (a few weeks after they received the award from Bon Appetit) was incredible, with the second time being very underwhelming (we had the last reservation for the night, and by the time we were halfway through the menu the place had cleared out and they started to clean both the kitchen and the dining room. While in a normal dining situation I wouldn't necessarily mind, when you're forking over $200+ a person I expect better. The food itself was also a miss overall, and I attribute part of that to being the last people there. I'd be willing to try again, but I wouldn't book a late reservation).

In addition to Grey Sweater (which I haven't been to, but is on the list), Black Walnut is their sister restaurant located next door that has a great and eclectic menu that we've enjoyed each time.
