Did you have any side effects from the 2nd Moderna? I'm getting my 2nd shot tomorrow. I'm overweight/obese myself but in good health otherwise but didn't have any effects from the first dose, it just made me sleepy.

I wasn't affected much after the first shot.

But last night about 3AM I got some good chills, aches and a headache. I took some Tylenol and that helped. My arm is crazy sore and we'll see what the rest of today brings. That was about 17 hours after my 2nd Moderna shot.

So, as I mentioned upthread, I had my 2nd Moderna shot 10AM Wed.

I was fine until about 3AM that night where I had some chills and aches.

Yesterday, was achy and low-energy; nothing terrible, I just took it easy and went to bed early.

After a good night's sleep, today I feel almost 100%. Even my arm soreness is largely gone.


So incredibly glad to get this over with and am looking forward to going out to restaurants and seeing my family (they are almost all fully vaxxed as well) for the first time in about a year.

I was pretty tired yesterday too. Slept like a rock last night. Arm is down to a small lump kind of like a mosquito bite that's only tender if I touch it. I would this regularly with no qualms if necessary.

Reading some stories about fully vaccinated people catching covid and sound very good. I think it was a story out of Minnesota where no one was put into the hospital. That being said I know personally 5 people ranging from age 35-50 that under no circumstances will get the shot. There about about 3.2 million adults in Oklahoma. I think (not sure where we are at now) but if we can hit 2 million I think that we done good?

Yes, a small percentage of vaccinated people will still get COVID. This is expected. These are called "breakthrough" cases. Fortunately, the cases are rare and the cases are more mild as antibodies still prevent the worst outcomes (i.e., hospitalization, death).

I posted in the main covid in okc post. Minn. is finding a fairly large number of these with the UK varient. I fair number are being hospitalized. I forget which of the Twin cities news sites I saw this on, either the Pioneer press or one of the tv stations a few days ago.

I think it was something like 48 people hospitalized for UK variant that were fully vaccinated.

I had a similar experience to Pete's, but I had the Pfizer jab at 5:45 on Wednesday. All day Thursday had chills and aches, but then my skin got tingly for a few hours. Left the office early and a fever erupted by 5:00. It broke around 7:30 and then I just dripped sweat profusely. Went to bed at 9:00 and woke up at 7:00 and felt like a million bucks this morning.

I received my 2nd Moderna shot this morning at 9. Worked all day, but could slowly feel myself getting tired. Now 6:30 and I'm exhausted, feel like I haven't slept in days. I felt the same the day after my 1st shot (which was afternoon). Off to bed! Glad to get it though, I must say.

2nd Pfizer shot scheduled for Wednesday morning. I've very excited to be fully vaccinated in 2 weeks. I did have Covid, so I'm assuming I still have antibodies; it's a huge relief to see friends and other vulnerable people soon.

And they were still on what we labeled phase 1 or maybe early phase 2 at the time of the article. Glad I'm not there.

Even if the vaccine was fine the percentage is way, way under the advertised efficacy rate.

89 breakthrough cases out of 800,000 "fully vaccinated" people is a .01% infection rate. From an advertised 90 to 95% efficacy rate. I call that pretty good.

If I am reading this right, the two big implications here are:

1. You are pretty much "vaccinated" two weeks after your first shot, right? I had not seen a lot of clarity on this previously. You still need to get your second shot as the study only measured the time between shots, not beyond that. And, of course, keep being responsible by wearing a mask even if just as an important social signal to others.

2. The early data are holding up... these vaccines are incredibly effective. Great news!
