Can a freedom of information act request get the info?
Lovely...
The UK variant of this virus was found in Colorado yesterday in a man that has no travel history to the UK. That means that it is likely that we’re seeing community spread of this variant in that region (at least). Let’s hope the vaccine will work on it.
3,249 new cases today; 7-day rolling average 2,536.
48 (!) additional deaths a new single-day high; 7-day rolling average 24.3.
Hospitalizations are 1,916 (-11) down slightly from yesterday's all-time high.
ICU is 486 (-13) down slightly from yesterday's all-time high.
All deaths are a tragedy, but there are 5(!) in the 36-49 age group in this one report alone. Wonder if the swamped hospital system is starting to impact that.
Data is going to be seriously lumpy till the 10th or so
The relevant parties in state government are doing everything to make the data "lumpy". It doesn't have to be this way.
Getting vaccinated tomorrow.
I'm very happy for you! And everyone that gets vaccinated means I'm one closer!
Edit: I was just on the OKC Govt FB page. They posted the phases poster and stated that we're officially in Phase 2. I had not seen before that Phase 2 has "People over 65 and people with a comorbidity". One listed comorbidity is a BMI over 30. I definitely make that and my wife barely does but does too. Could be the first time not being able to stick to losing weight might be a good thing. I'm going to wait a while before looking more into it to let more that really need it get it first. But maybe I can be closer to Feb than May.
Enraging: I just saw a PSA featuring Sarah Stitt. Her advice to Oklahomans: "Wash your hands and stay home if you're sick." Of course, no mention of wearing a mask.
Has anyone told her that this is spread by people who don't know they are carriers? Yo, Sarah, THEY DON'T KNOW THEY ARE SICK. Why are we still having this discussion 10 FREAKING MONTHS LATER?
The news just reported an updated icu number. Looks like there are 501 people in Oklahoma’s ICU’s. We’re also number 4 in the country for per capita hospitalizations.
I’m in the first responder and health worker category. Canadian County has spare Pfizer vaccine (since they come in lots of 975) and opened it up us in these groups. I was able to get a spot on the list, so I’ll be able to swing by Yukon after work and get my shot.
I’m honestly emotional just thinking about it. It feels like the first step towards the end of this all, and a transition point to a stressful 10 months that has worn me down at work and driven me into therapy.
I don’t know man, but I feel like this road is going to be very long. Outside of the initial excitement of the vaccines, they are rolling out very slowly. There is no unified message from out leadership at the highest levels, and there doesn’t seem to be a strong push to really ramp this up. Maybe the new leadership coming in will help, but at this rate, it will take 10 years (literally) to have 85% of the population vaccinated (think herd immunity). By then, we’ll probably have to revamp the vaccine to account for the dozens of variants by then. It’s crazy to think about how big this problem is and the hurdles we still face.
3,906 new cases today; 7-day rolling average 2,626.
36 additional reported deaths; 7-day rolling average 23.0.
Hospitalizations are 1,924 (+8), just 3 off the all-time high.
ICU is 501 (+15) the first time this number has crested 500.
