1,010 new cases today; 7-day rolling average is 1,266 off the high of 1,348 two days ago.
22 (!!) additional deaths, the most ever reported in one day.
Hospitalizations are 907 (-17).
ICU 286 (-19).
Does anybody know if any of these outbreaks are being traced back to football games?
With the ice storm causing people to stay indoors for ~2-3 days, I'll be interested to see how large the drop in cases is, if there is one. If there is a substantial drop, it's yet more evidence of what we need to be doing to beat the virus until the vaccine arrives.
The bars and the restaurants have become havens for Covid. And I realize a lot of people don’t like drinking alone (because they’ve been socialized to believe it is wrong), but now is not the time to worry about appearances or social graces. We need our policy makers to actually step up and implement best practices.
The added pressure of lost power and going to warming shelters, hotels, a friend or family member's home who has power, all these things risk spread of virus. It's a no-win situation. We lost power and decided to stay put because virus still trumps cold for us, but it may not be that way for others.
Every day there's some new idiotic story of stupidity somewhere. Las night the Dodgers third baseman had an inconclusive test but played anyway. Somewhere between the 2nd and 6th inning, stories vary, his results came back positive and he was removed from the game in the 6th inning. But he came back on the field maskless after the win to celebrate with the team. Hugging, lots of face to face yelling, all the stuff WS winners do. I will never get the level of not caring that's running rampant.
743 new cases today; I suspect not many tests due to the ice storm.
13 more reported deaths.
Hospitalizations 885 (-22).
ICU 305 (+19) which matches the all-time high.
Last two posts are both true. Also, ventilators are not a big current draw piece of equipment. Powering a bunch of them wouldn't overload just about any system.
New positive daily cases in Stillwater remaining under 10. But Enid where masks are not required is trying to close the gap with Stillwater. If Enid surpasses Stillwater in positive cases, I think it will be a good victory for mandatory city mask ordinances.
LOL. If that is your position, why not just state it? Instead, you lead with quasi-denier bull$hit we have heard hundreds of times and make ridiculous claims that are easily refuted. Your brand was that you were some kind of serious data cruncher. Yet, lately you engage in pointless sophistry, neutered by the bizarre pivot that you actually support wearing masks and also advocate for more restrictions. I have no problem if you are disagreeing with a position, but in your recent posts it has become difficult (to say the least) to even understand where you are coming from.
The U.S. had the highest number of cases ever yesterday, over 81,500.
I bet we'll be well over 100K before long.
Had to take someone to Mercy ER room last night The waiting room was full of sick people and the time to even get triaged was about an hour. All rooms were full and the wait for an opening was estimated about 3.5 hours. Was told it was same or worse across the metro. Heaven help you if you have an emergency medical situation, covid related or not.covid has already jammed up the Med system and quickly rising. Our governor has been spineless too long.
Yes, I am a data cruncher. I love looking at numbers to establish trends and from that, try to come up with predictions for what’s coming. I have been a proponent early on for not relying to heavily on daily rates...especially when every day drew a dramatic reaction from people on this forum (including you, btw) as the numbers came in. Every day was the same thing. Either and over-reaction either way (sky is falling or things aren’t that bad now). Our numbers were crap then. There wasn’t enough testing. The reports were flawed with issues ranging from bad tests, testing bias (only testing those with symptoms), and poor infrastructure. It was what it was. People were working themselves up over bad data, and it’s not worth regularly arguing with you and others on here about it.
I think this virus is bad. Its spreading unrelenting throughout the world. There appears to be no seasonality, and it looks like it may become endemic. It’s all overwhelming. The news is constantly negative, and this year has been an awful drag on everyone’s mental health...mine included.
At the same time, the death rates are falling. Treatments are improving, and there is a potential vaccine on the horizon. For many people in society, you can’t shut your life down. If you take the precautions and reduce your risk as much as you can, there’s nothing wrong with participating in society and your families. I’m sorry if you think everybody needs to live in a bubble, but that’s not going to happen.
That being said, it is obvious that some things need to close for a bit so we can try and get this back under control. Restaurants, bars, churches, and other large social gatherings need to be outside/curbside early to help slow the spread. Outside of that stuff, go live your life man.
Also, there is rarely anything in life that is black and white. This is no different. As we learn more through time, it’s ok to pivot to a different line of thinking. That’s how science works. Wear a mask. Social distance. If you are in a low-risk category, go live your life while maintaining the cdc recommendations for social distancing. Unfortunately, things like bars, churches, weddings, etc don’t really allow for social distancing...hence why they need to be shut down for a bit.
