Please check on your elderly neighbors and acquaintances by any safe means (telephone, Skype, post it note on their door). They are suffering, and dying, in silence.
Just want to say that there are other out there who may not be "elderly" but have few family members or maybe friends. Sometimes it might be a single person who's job brought them to the area, maybe a student far from home renting a house or appartment or just a retired person or other person who because of the pandemic finds them self at home most of the time. I kind of fit one of those descriptions as I am an early retiree without family. Just be kind to them. With the pandemic shutting down a lot of outside activities that people participate in we can find ourselves very isolated. If one is older or has health issues we try to go out as little as possible. Even if one is going to church, many times with the covid precautions that some have in place, other activities are cancelled. all are asked to social distance and not to gather to talk after services but to immediately leave. Also even those with friend, some of us try to stay away and avoid gatherings. It just makes for more lonely people in our society. I guess I am lucky in that I do have friends out of the area and we get on social media almost daily and visit.

Right. If you really need to meet with others, wear masks, social distance, and most importantly, hold your service outside. That's about the only way you can do it safely. We just got word yesterday of a church with people we know that followed strict protocols and now has people with positive cases who interacted with other members. It's not a good situation and they were as careful as you can be.

I have a friend over in Europe, and she said that they are really struggling over there. They basically had this thing "under control" with a much lower baseline than us. The moment they started opening, covid surged and is now spreading almost uncontrollably. The only country that seems to have really beaten it back is china; however, I take all of their numbers with a grain of salt. Either we need a major cultural shift across the globe to really fight this thing or we need a viable vaccine in a hurry. It's either that or herd immunity will eventually be the only way we can snuff it out. Don't light me up on the herd immunity thing. I'm not suggesting that as an option. That's only worst case scenario. There's no seasonality. It's running unabated throughout the year. It spreads like wildfire. People are idiots.

The problem with the herd immunity suggestion is it largely doesn't actually happen without a vaccine. We never got to herd immunity for polio, or smallpox, or measles, or any number of viruses that ravaged humanity until we had vaccines.

All the experts have said repeatedly that herd immunity is absolutely not an option.

Some people just want to keep bringing up all these extraneous things when all this is very straight-forward, and it has been from the beginning. Many just don't like the answers.

663 new cases today, as Monday's are usually the lowest day of the week.

    2 additional deaths.

At Stillwater hospital, ICU beds for covid available again as of Monday morning as shown. In Stillwater, daily new covid positive cases continue to stay in single digits. It's not headed in the wrong way everywhere in the state. But too early in the season to take much hope from it.

There are several nations who have contained the virus effectively, relative to the US. Almost all countries have been better at it than the US.

But that makes total sense, because not only does the US not have much of a national mitigation or containment plan in place, leadership here actively works against mitigation efforts. We're not even talking about parts of our government being incompetent or abdicating responsibility. Many are working to undermine the most simple and basic actions that could be taken to control the spread. They are simply choosing more sickness and death. So, guess what, we're getting more sickness and death.

Promoting heard immunity is just way of being pro-covid and hoping for more death so that some can avoid minor inconveniences like wearing a mask.

Which part? The part where they have beaten this back or the part where they’re the only country? What other countries would you say have returned back to normal?

Channel 9 reported this as a “major decline in cases” this morning.

As there are on most Monday's. Disingenuous reporting.

So, are you saying Europe is doing well?

Who is denying anything?? Just because I said China is the only one?? Ok, how about this: Europe is failing as is much of the rest of the world. Better??

New Zealand is an island nation that has shut itself off from the world. Hardly an option for the US. Hong Kong might as well be a part of China. Vietnam: you got me there. However, they are also enforcing draconian measures to keep in check.

You guys are missing the point. These countries have it under control and the moment they get lax, covid comes back. We need a vaccine. Without it, we’re screwed for quite a while..

Again, there are varying degrees of control.

To do nothing and just wait for a vaccine will cost hundreds of thousands of lives.

There are things to do to mitigate the spread, which has been outlined by the experts and known this whole time. The simple fact is that leaders -- especially in red states -- have steadfastly refused to follow guidelines.

The rhetoric that there is nothing that can be done until a vaccine is widely available is completely wrong.

What action? France hit 50,000 cases per day yesterday. You effectively made my point though. You have it in control till you back off just a bit then it comes back in force. It really is quite something to watch. It’s also really concerning. Like I said before, we really need a vaccine.

I get what you’re saying and agree with you. Why do people get so twisted off of the word “herd immunity” shows up in a post. I never said that I think that is the way forward.

I wear a mask. I believe everyone should be wearing them. We need to shut some things down again. That’s what I was referring to when I mentioned that we need a “cultural shift” to combat this thing.

If we paid bars, restaurants, concert venues, etc. to stay closed and pay their employees until there's a vaccine, it would probably cost less than the health care costs from the number of cases they're currently causing by having to open back up in order to stay in business. It would also be helpful for anyone in a position of authority to drive home the point that Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's celebrations can't be done safely this year, save for small outdoor gatherings. Neither of those things are going to happen at this point, but that would be a theoretical start. As it is, the current rise in cases is incredibly worrying.

Covid-19: China's Qingdao to test nine million in five days

Covid-19: China's Qingdao to test nine million in five days

China tests Nine Million because of they discovered 12 cases in the region. We will never get this under control until we can dispatch widespread, easy to utilize fast results testing. The ability to test large populations with instant results is needed now probably more than a vaccine. We also need a national mask mandate.

Also there are the huge number of deniers. I talked to an acquaintance who still says it just the bad flu that will be gone after the election. Lots and lots of those people I have run into. They refuse to wear a mask or social distance. I guess I will be the odd one. I was in Sprouts today. They open to side by side checkouts with people standing 3' side by side. Nope I ante checking out like that. That is not 6 ft apart. I am tired of trying to dodge these people. I stepped back and alomost knocked over a huge display of olive oil. I am getting so tired of this. I don't know how to do instacart if you are out of thier delievery area. I don't shop Walmart, I only shp Sprouts, Alid's and Natural grocers and Sams club for paper goods, printer ink etc What is one to do when one is older. Nope no family.

You can do Sprouts online, create an account and do curbside pickup. It is a great option. https://shop.sprouts.com/

"I don't know how to do instacart if you are out of thier delievery area. "

Never done this myself thru instacart, but I believe it allows for buy online pickup in store (bopis). The aldi on n May has painted parking spots where you park and they bring to your vehicle. An option to limit your exposure.

Other options for delivery are butcher box, imperfect foods; walmart has delivery also, I do suppose it is location dependent...

I've been using a combination of the above since march
