Thanks for posting. Looks nice. I have a feeling they will need to expand before long.

very nice. Hopefully the YOUTH center will be just as nice, then OKC can go down on the crime (and boredom) rankings.
    Oklahoma City, the RENAISSANCE CITY!

Hopefully the city will add all age rec centers. There is only one rec center south of 240 and the city closed it for this summer.

Hopefully, seeing this area will convince the city that the southwest trail promised in Maps 3 must be delivered.

Mike Adams stated in the MAPS 3 advisory meeting, that there is a possible funding issue with this center. Anyone know the details?

    Update from VeloCity:

I’d say this line is a tad irrelevant by now lol

“ “They have already cleared the site and demoed the existing structures out there. We just can’t get a break from the rain,” Todd said.”

I've seen a lot of times where 55 is considered senior for discounts, but this might be the first time I've seen it as low as 50.

AARP is 50. We got it as soon as we could because we used a big discount from them for something immediately afterwards (hotel rooms, I think), pretty much haven't used any of their discounts since, though.

I have AARP. The AARP rate at Hilton is usually better than the HHonors rate and it also gives you 10% off at Outback which my kids love

I called City of OKC and they said the senior center on 134 and Western is to open July 2023. I drove by it this week and it doesn't look like any progress is being made. Th exterior is still unfinished. Maybe I don't have a good feel for the pace of contruction. Given its been delayed for months (it was supposed to open in December 2022), do you think it will really open in July?

In case there are any southside residents on this site, at the OKC council meeting they stated the opening has been delayed yet again. The center is now expected to open in September of 2023. My guess is it will be delayed again.

This project has been crazy slow. I think Maps 3 was approved over a decade ago, and according to their site the last project should have been completed in 2022. They are still finishing up the repaving of roads out by where I live and these were approved in GO bonds from 2007. When it comes to government projects I typically have very low expectations because it either takes a decade and a half to complete, or if it is completed in a reasonable time it's usually due to them doing around half of what they originally promised. I'm sure there are some exceptions, but very, very few.

It broke ground August 4, 2021 so it will be over two years. The exterior isn't even done at this point.

Well the delays continue. Latest is construction may be completed by year end 2023. No opening date has been set.

Looks like you were right on the money last time about it being delayed again. Last time I drove by it a couple weeks ago didn't look like they'd done anything in weeks.

The city said the delays are due to supply chain and contractor issues. At this point, I don't think this project is a priority for the city. The city has completed other projects recently. Not sure why this senior center and the Earlywine Golf Clubhouse have taken so long.

It's the contractor. Same contractor for both jobs.

Does the city not have any recourse to get these projects back on track? The city's lack of communication on the situation is not helping community relations.
