So they're putting in place a surge plan for the hospitals, but haven't actually told the hospitals themselves yet. Wow.

I don't think Stitt is very bright at all, but I'm more concerned by his lack of empathy toward people who are really suffering -- those who are staffing our ERs and dealing with this on the front line. It is unconscionable that his administration would try to spin any of this for PR reasons. You know that his failure to act before is compounding the problem now, and he is not about to take any kind of action two weeks before the election.
I've worked for a couple large organizations that the senior management would put together "plans" for the working departments or divisions. Without really knowing much about how things actually operated. As you can imagine the results were somewhere between bad and disastrous. I foresee that probably happening here.
Had a procedure done today at SW Community Hospital - one guy was leaving and didn't have his mask over his nose, and one woman came in with her mask the same way. If hospitals aren't even enforcing mask mandates, then we're totally f-ing screwed.
WOW!!! I've been to Community Hospital North/Oklahoma Sports Science Orthopedics about a half dozen times since early August. They are VERY good about stopping you at the door for temperature and questions and making sure masks are worn everywhere. When I was in the MRI machine alone in the room the tech said over the intercom that I could take my mask off but they suggested I didn't. I didn't.
Today's report shows a total of 870 people in the hospital (+49 from yesterday), with 317 in the ICU (-2 from yesterday). A new all time high for patients in the hospital.
The Day over Day patients seen in the hospital is +149, a new all time high. (Today's "Hospitalized Ever" of 7,964 minus yesterday's 7,815)
They did stop us and take our temp at the second door, and everybody else had masks on in the waiting room. My procedure was an EGD, so the mask had to come off for me. They're doing *pretty* good, but even to let 2 people out of a dozen wear masks incorrectly and YOU'RE A HOSPITAL just ain't cool.
No. It's not. I've been very concerned about having to be in a hospital situation so much lately and looking at many more trips. I'm really glad where I go seems really careful. Maybe or maybe not but it could have something to do with the hospital being privately owned by the physicians that operate there.
It is amazing that this is happening exactly as predicted by the scientists, but worse due to the total disregard of the governor and president to scientific and medical guidance.
The plan is for OKMRC volunteers to just staff hospital beds.
That’s well and good, I was a volunteer for a long time so I am familiar with them. But you need actual specialized people to staff ICU beds. And if people have ICU experience they will be working overtime in their own ICU and not volunteering to do it somewhere else. The plan to utilize OKMRC volunteers to staff these hospitals ignores the fact that these volunteers are already working at all these hospitals they are supposed to be staffing. That leaves retired nurses to be our surge staff I guess.
Saints has all floors open and has had for awhile. This time of the year they usually have some floors closed.
^^^.... That was told to me by someone that has worked as a hospitalist there for 11 years.
We are usually pleased when our hypotheses are borne out, when our predictive models hew so close to the actual findings.
We're just disappointed when politicians assume that we are practicing some kind of alchemy or ancient witchcraft. Scientists devote their lives to generating new hypotheses, testing them, and giving that information to the public for the greater good.
1,307 new cases today; 7-day rolling average now 1,177 which is 5 off an all-time high.
19 (!) additional reported deaths, another all-time high after yesterday's record 18.
Hospitalizations 870 (+49) for yet another all-time high. As I posted earlier, this represents a 50% increase in just 3 weeks.
ICU 317 (-2) down slightly from yesterday's all-time high.
209 new cases in OK County.
I hate to think if this trend continues what the numbers will be looking like after Thanksgiving.
I think things will peak in January and February then hopefully we'll start a slow recovery and by the summer we should have a vaccine.
But this winter is going to be very bad.
Since I am older and retired, I plan on staying home as much as possible. Keeping stocked up on groceries and on an acreage so I can go and walk my land. Just not many reasons to get out and about. Hoping that I stay healthy through this. This is not a time that anyone wants to be near a hospital.
A good breathalyzer to detect COVID-19 will surely help in controlling the virus. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapo...s-in-singapore
My wife just said she heard a commercial for An Affair Of The Heart. If it like it usually is this will be the worst single spreader event I've heard of. I used to go with her and a normal AAOTH is three days of pretty much literally elbow to elbow people.
^^ Oct 23-25. Masks required and ASKING people to social distance.
