I was in the Natural Grocer IN Edmond on 33 rd, one lady was going out the door without a mask. They were testing the generator so the store was dark. Usually that is one of the best stores as far as social distance/masking. I also went to Locke supple in Edmond to get a water heater. About 20 or so guys in the store, plumbers/electrians staff. I was the only one wearing a mask. As I was leaving a man and looked like grown son entered the place, both wearing masks and neither looked like a contractor/plumber/electrician. I did have about 4 big guys walk toward me. I took a step back a tripped over a box in the aile way and fell. Nope nobody bothered to ask if an older lady need help or was ok or even bothered to care. I am seeing a lot of anger and lack of manners in stores these days.
I’m a statistics nut so as of late the higher case numbers, while high, have been somewhat expected and explainable. The last couple days of hospitalizations however are very, very bad.
628 in the hospital. Highest since August 5th.
Another example of people just being done with it.
I’m a HUGE baseball fan. And a bigger CARDINALS fan. Baseball made rules for beginning the short season that masks had be worn unless actually on the field and no sunflower seeds or spitting in general. Well, screw that both teams playing tonight have maybe 90% mask wearing in the dugouts and there’s lots of spitting going on out in the field. The Cards missed almost 3 weeks for players testing positive, It’s completely insane.
Wonder what caused a spike in Hospitals? Honestly I never really understood how they almost stayed the same for weeks. I would there would be more fluctuation in the numbers than what there has been.
Totals
September averaging over 900 cases/day. Blowing the previous records set in July and August completely out of the water. Deaths, however, currently projected to "only" be second most deadly month for OK with an estimated 211 people dead. How many of these cases can be attributed to the inclusion of rapid tests, I don't believe there is a way to know at this time. Anybody know if the OSDH has released any info on this?
Trends
I marked when the change in counting methodology occurred for reference. The seven-day new case average has quite literally gone off this chart, setting a new all-time high. I didn't think I'd ever need to expand the Y axis range again... yet, here we are. Seven day average deaths still seem rangebound between 6-10. Hopefully they will stay down. I wouldn't bet on it.
Looking only at cases averages... yep, bad news. Up, up, and away.

Mayor Holt just posted on his facebook page. Looks like the spike in Hospitals is probably due from Labor Day so not shocking. The shocking thing to me is over 100 new hospitalization on the weekend. I would imagine most of them were ER visits as most doctors offices are not open.
1,164 new cases today; that is an unprecedented 6 days in a row over 1,000.
7-day rolling average at a new all-time high: 1,108
212 new cases in OK County.
Statewide hospitalizations now 628 (this number is always a day behind). That is a 25% increase in just one week.
14 reported deaths, the most in almost a month.
My kids school had a positive result in 2nd grade, so that particular class is now in quarantine. For some reason nobody on the “open up 5 days, no masks” crowd is talking about this of course.
I am guessing it will be a while under we are under 1000 per day now. We are spreading like crazy now.
Interesting to see what Stitt will say at 1pm conference today. I am guessing something along the lines that the numbers are just because it is spreading in prison and Oklahoma is fine.
Our percentage of cases in the <18 year group is rising fast. If we go ahead and exclude the prison cases, that percentage will be even worse and highlight the fact that schools are a big driving force right now.
I think we have been expecting this rise for the last two weeks, as hospitalizations, and then deaths, are lagging indicators. So, literally everyone here except our resident COVID DENIER POSSE has been expecting this completely predictable result that we have been predicting since cases began spiking again.........wait for it........when people went back to school and football and thought, "Oh why the hell don't we LIVE a little and get back to our lives?"
So, expect the deaths to rise and keep rising through the fall.
One question I have regarding hospitalizations: when the mayor reports hospitalizations in OKC, is he reporting all patients hospitalized for Covid in OKC, or only OKC residents who are hospitalized in OKC?
I would think all patients. The decline of rural hospitals will drive many folks into the metro, and many of the chain hospitals are build on a business model of treating simple cases in the rural hospitals and feeding specialty care cases into the city.
It's all so completely predictable.
Which also means there are ways to change course, it's just nobody -- especially our leaders -- want to do it.
Then everyone acts surprised when absolutely everything happens just as scientists said it would.
There is no magic to this; it's all science, logic and common sense.
The people that keep looking anywhere else for answers and theories will go down in history as huge culprits in what is turning out to be a historic tragedy that could have largely been prevented.
These are the consequences of science deniers (creationists, anti-vaxxers, conspiracy theorists and the politicians that fan those flames) grasping for anything that provides answers they want, and in the process rejecting the empirical truth yielded by the scientific method.
But thoughts, prayers, and God are going to make this all better!![]()
