Month Summary
As expected, August month summary is shaping up to be pretty grim. Average deaths/day currently 26% higher in August than April.


Rolling Death/Case Averages

Hopefully just a blip (like last Saturday) but today's high case count pushes the 7 day average above the 14 day case average. Unfortunately, the 7-Day death average remains slightly below all time highs.

As seen above, the 7/14/21 day case averages are converging and making a mess of the plots. Hopefully, the 21 day will fall tomorrow, as the Aug-1 case count of 1,244 will roll out of the calculation.

So it comes down to credability and reasons to qustion that credability.

This is false, and it is a false choice. There are more than two outcomes possible here. You seem to swing from one extreme pole to the other. Shut everything down or we are all going to get it. Other countries have proven that this is not the case.

We can and should be able to live with this virus and minimize the spread of it to almost exclusively the most foolhardy among us. Alas, we do not have competent or sane leadership on the federal level, and we have either clueless or delusional leadership on the state level.

But to say it's only we all get it or we get the vaccine is not true at all. It's just that we have a lot of people among us, in our city and state, who refuse to accept a new normal and are trying to force people into the frame of what they think life should look like, when there are workable alternatives to it.

And this list of countries gets smaller everyday.

Sorry but the new Normal is having over at least 500 cases a day. We have 5 months already and proved that we are not going to slow the virus like other counties. The new normal is having this virus around.

I don't think I necessarily agree with this. The swings in case count seem dependent on population density and how hard a state/country has been hit. The lower populated states are going to see the biggest impact this third wave. Oklahoma kind of falls in the middle. California, Texas, Florida, Arizona are seeing huge decreases, but they also got hit a lot harder.

Texas had over 5,000 cases again today. They have only had 5 days in 2 months where they haven't reported over 5,000 cases. Stitt bows to pressure to release White House reports on coronavirus

Following complaints from local Oklahoma officials who say they have been kept out of the loop, Gov. Kevin Stitt said his administration will make public coronavirus reports the state receives from the White House.

Stitt has not been releasing the reports from the White House Coronavirus Task Force, nor implementing many of the public health recommendations in those reports.

So, Stitt has been sitting on these White House task force reports and recommendations... Not sharing them with mayors, school districts or anyone else having to make big public health decisions.

And the only reason he is now changing is because a national group outed him and then leaders started to come down on him. EIGHT of these have been issued and the only one anyone saw was the one leaked to the media.

On top of all that, he takes every opportunity to 1) boast about how well things are going even though the national experts are saying the exact opposite; and 2) completely contradict the detailed recommendations of the people specifically empowered by our democracy to provide this sort of guidance and expertise.


And of course, throughout this entire time, after starting off in pretty good shape, we have some of the worst rates of growth anywhere and people are dying while families and small businesses are facing all types of financial ruin.

Gov. Stitt’s office withheld White House COVID-19 report recommendations from public

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – White House reports focused on recommendations specifically for Oklahoma’s COVID-19 response have, until this week, been withheld from local health officials across the state. The most recent report states Oklahoma needs a statewide mask mandate and that bars must close.

“We’re truly disappointed that Gov. Stitt and our leadership hasn’t shared information,” said Dr. George Monks, president of the Oklahoma State Medical Association.

Birx’s visit to Tulsa was shrouded in secrecy as she visited Oklahoma as part of a seven-state tour. Oklahoma was the only state in which she was not made available to speak to reporters.

Local Officials Across Oklahoma 'Blindsided,' 'Shocked' By White House Report Not Shared By Governor

The new report from the White House coronavirus task force, which counts Vice President Mike Pence as its chair and Dr. Deborah Birx as its coordinator, is dated Sunday, Aug. 16th, the same day as Birx’s visit with Gov. Kevin Stitt in Tulsa. Following that meeting, Stitt said “there wasn’t really any recommendations that she made in this meeting,” and said specifically that she had not recommended a statewide mask mandate nor a statewide bar closure.

“Mask mandate needs to be implemented statewide to decrease community transmission,” the leaked report reads, in a section on the first page labeled RECOMMENDATIONS. “Bars must be closed, and indoor dining must be restricted in yellow and red zone counties and metro areas.”
