Sad and yet completely unsurprising too.

I would be afraid to trust they would wear a mask when out after they got tested positive.

Fauci suggested Wednesday that Americans should consider wearing goggles or a face shield in order to prevent spreading or catching COVID-19. I would sure want to wear goggles on a crowded plane, along with a mask.

Cain initially positive on 6/29, much earlier than Stitt.

    1,117 new cases today.

The 7-day rolling average is now pushing 1,000/day at 991.

Previous high for a Thursday was last week: 737.

    13 additional deaths.

84 reported deaths in just the last 10 days.

Previous 10-day high was way back in April at 80.

13 more deaths is not good at all. Is 84 close to being a record in 10 days? We are averaging 1,000 cases a day, hospitals are at an all time high and deaths are going up. Are we just going to say oh we need to learn to live with it or are we going to take action to get it under control?

The 7-day death average (keeping in mind that most of the time deaths are reported >24 hours after they occur) reached a new all-time high with today's report.

Stitt isn't going to do anything. He's on the Trump Train. OPEN THE SCHOOLS!

Also interesting (and quite troublesome) to note that most of the recent deaths had symptom onset in the first week of July, when cases were at about 1/3 of what they are now.

Hospitalizations and deaths are lagging indicators.

We are just starting to see the manifestation of the last several weeks of record numbers of new cases.

And it does not bode well for what we are going to see in the next 2-3 weeks and beyond.

Well, considering this will likely be like the flu going forward (no proof, but with it being a virus, there is no way to be fully immune to it, so similar to the flu, it will always be around) we need to figure out ways to treat it. The vaccine will not be fool-proof. And anyone who thinks so is delusional.

That being said, we do need to slow the spread now. But the governor doesn't care, and no amount of bashing him on here will change his mind. So people need to be mature and wear their masks.

It will only be like the flu when there is a vaccine. There is no vaccine, yet (although I'm hopeful). But, it will never really be like the flu because it's not like the flu at all and never has been and it is ridiculous to say that. It has also proven to be completely immune to seasonality.

This is not a seasonal virus! It is just as bad in winter, spring, and summer (and soon to be, fall).

Politicians all over the country -- including the main one in D.C. -- have been pressured into taking this more seriously and even enacting laws and ordinances.

It's beyond ridiculous to suggest that people shouldn't be leaning on these decision-makers and leaders. In fact, it's downright dangerous.

And only for 2 weeks with no penalties for non compliance. I am still seeing people going around with masks pulled down and only covering their mouth or wearing them very loosely in stores that require them.

i saw Fauci threw a weak opening pitch at a baseball game and followed up his performance by not wearing a mask in the stands.

i wish he would show some leadership on this issue.

“The flu” doesn’t stick around and return every year because it’s a virus.

The flu sticks around because it is actually a highly variable and always mutating family of many different viruses, with us always having to make predictions for which strains will be prevalent each year to begin producing the vaccines needed.

Coronaviruses are fairly stable overall, so we hope that we can control the spread once we have a vaccine. Long term immunity provided by such a vaccine will still need to be determined, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we end up with needing either frequent universal boosters or just targeted revaccination campaigns to target local outbreaks in the future.

Yeah, I'm really going to hate going to Lowe's (unavoidable, been putting it off, but need certain things from them now-ish), because I'm guessing mask conformance there will not be great, so will have to talk to a manager and have them talk to the offenders, then probably end up calling 911 because they won't put on a mask (properly) or leave.

“His pitch sucks so his science must suck” is not a surprising argument anymore.

Shockingly I also don’t wear my mask around my family and our quarantine circle.

Oh pft, he pulled it down to take a drink. He was isolated and the only people near him were those in his circle (one of whom is his wife) and he's tested daily. So outside, socially isolated, and pulling down the mask to take a drink. That's sufficient leadership to me and people putting their finger to the side of their mouth going "oooohhh... look at Fauci" are just the antimaskers trying to score points.

It's like when people post bad articles or memes with the "I don't know but how interesting if true" crap. They think they're being clever but it's transparent and they're just operating with an agenda.

He understates the reaction, he says it's "mischievous". It's way more than that, it's designed to completely discredit him and science and to sow distrust in the entire scientific field of which he's a part. That's not "mischievous", it's verging on evil, considering the consequences of not wearing a mask.

Flu season is a really important deadline for trying to slow this thing down. Especially if schools are open.

U.S. Economy Shrank At Record-Breaking 33% Rate Last Quarter

"The Commerce Department’s estimate of the second-quarter decline in the gross domestic product, the total output of goods and services, marked the sharpest such drop on records dating to 1947. The previous worst quarterly contraction, a 10% drop, occurred in 1958 during the Eisenhower administration."

Well, people have leaned on him for a month now, and gotten nowhere. He even got the dang thing, and it didn't change his tone, at all. What is the definition of insanity again?

So, just stop and let people needlessly die?

Citizens have a responsibility that doesn't end with voting.

And people were saying the exact same thing about Trump and others before public pressure forced change.
