But I suppose quietly writing a check is less fun than Virtue Signaling in a dramatic letter to Congress.

So how exactly would writing a check to the Treasury Dept. work? I'm serious, how exactly would a rich person just give some money to the US Gov't (possibly to be used for a specific purpose)? The tax code will most likely never be changed to tax them more, so yeah, it's not going to amount to anything, but it may start a conversation or enable some changes eventually......

The drafters of the letter employ some of the finest Accountants and Tax Attorneys in the country — professionals who know their way around the Code. Surely if they are smart enough to find their clients millions in deductions, they could figure out ways for them to overpay. It wouldn’t be hard.

The Georgia governor just literally overruled any local municality's ability to pass their own mask ordinances. Both Savannah and Atlanta had passed mask ordinances. Unbelievable. Hopefully Gov. Covidiot doesn't try something like that.

By the way, Tulsa passed its mask ordinance 7-2.

People still won't wear them. Just watch the news. Tonight on news 9 so many people won't wear one. Only thing that will work is a shut down. We will get there look at the numbers. California is there Texas is almost there.

Went to Norman, to shop at box stores and to do something. Everyone was wearing a mask in Target, Metro Shoes, Natural Grocer, and the Spirit Shop. It wasn’t that difficult. Really, only the employees that have to be masked for their whole shift, they should get kudos, everyone else, 25 minutes of little effort, to reduce the spread.

I think an OKC mask order would apply to Remington because it's technically operated by a private company, Global Gaming, that is owned by a tribe, and is regulated by the state.

WinStar, Riverwind, Newcastle, etc. are all operated directly by the Chickasaw tribe and have been under a mandatory mask order from Governor Anoatubby since they reopened.

I am not sure about the status of other tribes, or whether a theoretical mask mandate issued by Governor Stitt could apply to the tribes or not. Especially in light of the recent SCOTUS decision. That's a question for a good lawyer, for sure... Hopefully any tribes that are not currently mandating masks would voluntarily go along with a state order.

I just saw this,

In Palm Beach County, at least 1,360 children age 17 and younger are infected with COVID-19. The percent positivity is a stunning 33.5 percent — that’s up from the last pediatric update a week ago.

The Palm Beach County pediatric percent positivity is higher than neighboring Broward County which reports 32.2 percent, but lower than Miami-Dade which reports 39.7.

First it’s sad. Second it really makes one wonder how many people have it without knowing.

Importantly, if there are fewer than 7 votes, the ordinance won’t go into effect until August 21! Help!

Definitely call McAtee if you are in his ward but no matter who your council member is, tell them to vote yes. They need to hear from you!

This I agree with completely. And the only two alternatives that I can see are let the virus run wild and take our chances or shut everything down for as long as it takes for the numbers to come way down. Neither of those are acceptable when an alternative that can be easily accomplished if everyone just shows a little caring for our fellow man is available.

I still find it strange some people are a hell of a lot more mad and upset over mandatory masks than over the government closing their favorite bars, restaurants and other businesses back when it first happened. It sure all had far greater adverse impact against freedom loving people. You still can't see a movie. Why aren't they protesting in front of movie theaters?

Some people are more afraid of the mask than the virus.

How about we make people wishing to talk fill out a questionnaire before they're allowed to speak and if they're batsh*t crazy, they don't get to? And yes, at this point, the "authorization" *temporary* way of doing things is more efficient and called for. States and municipalities have all kinds of power at their disposal during public health emergencies that have been found constitutional.

Nixon opened up trade negiotiations with China when public support was against it. Politicians are welcome to "take the temperature" of the people, but they are supposed to vote based on all of the information they have access to, including information outside the public sphere. It's not majority rule, it's plurality. As PJ O'Rourke once wrote, "If it was majority rule, the Gap would only sell stone-washed jeans."
