And now there's this idiocy that's going to add to the cases - do they *really* think most people are going to be wearing masks voluntarily? Hasn't happened yet, won't happen ever unless it's made mandatory, and even then.... It's not about politics, it's about science, FFS, how about you do what's right instead of pandering!

“We did not want to be drawn into a political controversy,” Aron told Variety. “We thought it might be counterproductive if we forced mask wearing on those people who believe strongly that it is not necessary. We think that the vast majority of AMC guests will be wearing masks. When I go to an AMC feature, I will certainly be wearing a mask and leading by example.”
Mask wearing is political. The govt made it political when they flip flopped on the recommendation.
What a silly argument. This is a novel virus, so we have more information now than we did 4 months and all the information and experiences and experiments show that wearing a mask absolutely slows down the spread of the virus. To say that this is political because leaders changed their recommendation on better information is ridiculous.
Leaders could lead by example but refuse to do so. How many people would put on a mask if Trump/Pense/Stitt showed up *anywhere* wearing a politically neutral mask? (As opposed to one saying MAGA for instance.)
They have pretty much done the opposite. Lead the other direction.
I dont think wearing a mask should be political. I am a conservative Republican, I wear a mask when out in public. Its about stopping or slowing the virus. Can mask wearing just be show your support of your school? High school or college and not make this a political issue? Wear a cloth one with your team colors or school logo. If there is a remote chance this will help slow the spread and save a life, let us wear our masks until this is over. I understand its a bit difficult for people at their jobs. Allow more breaks and allow for more distance. Those who work in stores, well don't crowd them, walk around the area that they are working, Give them more breaks. Just be kind.
Some leaders didn't change their recommendations when better science became available (I did, I was against mask-wearing in the beginning, but am not now), they actively were/are against mask-wearing, and their followers, well, followed them, or at the very least, the leaders said "Yeah, whatever on masks, it's on you" rather than using actual science that shows mask-wearing works. So yeah, the assertion of "leaders changed their recommendation on better information" is actually ridiculous, but the assertion that it's political because some leaders are actively anti-science is not ridiculous.
Totally agree with you. Make of list of stuff you need go into the store get it an leave. I went to the meat market only one wearing a mask i was in there a total of 8 minutes that is all i had to wear the mask. Home depot to return something and do a quick look for something 7 minutes total that is all i had to wear the mask.
Apparently AMC figured out they need to do the right thing:

It has been revealed that initial guidance on not wearing masks was to ensure PPE supplies would be available for medical facilities. Also, there was probably some faint hope that the USA would not become literally the worst country at dealing with this virus. The guidance changed when it became obvious we would make Italy and Iran look adept at handling Covid-19.
The science of masks was always there and it was stupid messaging to imply otherwise as the CDC and states did. I posted this article over three months ago detailing that all experts knew masks should be worn: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/17/o...ace-masks.html
Amazingly enough, controversial virologist Judy Mikovits PhD, advises healthy people against wearing masks, because it suppresses the immunity system. She even thinks social distancing is a bad idea. It hurts you not to hug people. It's immune suppressive. If desired, you can hear her here in an hour long interview: https://www.podbean.com/site/Episode.../PBE030B438R8H
I’m sorry, but I can’t get onboard with this argument. Our immune system is based on memory. We get vaccines as children that last a lifetime. Keeping harmful bacteria and viruses from entering your body for a few months is not suddenly going to make your immune system inept at doing its job.
Having managed the development of some UVC air sterilization products in the past, and working with various doctors, air hygiene specialists, immunologists, etc. on the applications, they all led me to believe that our basic immunity system is more fully developed as young children, if it isn't altered by our genetics. During that time it is normal and healthy to be exposed and the young body to build protection against those things for later life. However, any rational medical person advises vaccinations against things like tuberculosis, polio, small pox, measles, etc. Things of those nature will cause permanent and lasting damage on young kids and others, so you don't want them unprotected. Purposefully allowing or causing a population to be exposed or unprotected from a virus that we have seen be highly threatening, and one which we are just now figuring out the ramification of exposure on various populations segments, is reckless and potentially very dangerous. The idea of purposefully trying to create herd immunity is also reckless and potentially dangerous. The willingness to sacrifice whole segments of our population by those who think they are immune from the disease itself is pretty narcissistic, in my opinion.
I think a society's ethos includes who it chooses to protect. The sacrificing of large numbers of weak, compromised, or aged population when there are alternatives seems to me to be very un-Christian and against the very ideals of the America we tell the world we are. We just need to live up to what we preach.
