WRT politics, I posted this earlier in the COVID-19 political thread (please keep the replies there and not here):

The scary part - they only have numbers as of June 12th in the model. Going to be sky high after this week is processed. We were below 1 for the longest time and now we're the worst in the country. notgreatbob.gif

It will most definitely keep going higher and higher until people start taking masks, etc. seriously.
SHUT IT DOWN. Sorry it's got to happen. Someone needs to have the balls and say you all didn't listen. You stopped wearing mask. You gathered in large protest So now we have to close everything again for 3 weeks. Maybe next time when we open things back up you all would of learned a lesson and wear a mask.

I've said it from the beginning, this is very strongly tied to politics. Tons of data show that the redder the state and county, the faster the infection rate is rising, especially where the governors are tightly aligned with the white house (and as I write this our governor is literally sitting in 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue).

And of course all this is completely predictable given the current situation, at least if you happen to believe in science rather than politics.
Trump said today people who wear masks do so because they dont like him.... so that divide will be even deeper.

That’s wild. I think I would make an appointment with a pulmonologist and see about mitigating any long term damage.

That site says "We have a significant model update coming out this Friday, June 19th — stay tuned."

Oklahoma isn't the only state seeing record high numbers though. I guess protesting and being in large crowds not a good idea after all.

I don’t think them closing anything down is happening anytime soon. I think I read a quote yesterday from the new State Health Commissioner who basically said “we have no plans to go backwards.”

So I guess we just have to get through it, or have the hospitals fill and hundreds start dying

There is no evidence that this is tied to protests.

Lots of places have had more and bigger protests and aren't seeing these types of increases.

It has much more to do with Oklahomans being too damn stupid to wear masks regularly because politics.

From estimates I’ve listened to, maybe 3-6% of cases could be attributed to protests, but people not wearing masks (and no one enforcing it) is going to be a bigger long term cause.

Unfortunately, an indoor rally with followers prone to partisan health misinformation is setting the stage for a super spreading event. Ain’t good.

If protests were tied to this, we'd expect to see massive increases in Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania and Georgia. The data isn't showing this.

More herd immunity? Those states had huge numbers before?

I for one will continue to wear my masks and wash/sanitize my hands and everything around the office, cars, house, etc. even though I’ve apparently had it already. Just to be safe.

Let’s not get into a pissing contest. I supported the protests. They are unquestionably responsible for some spread. But to say there’s none or to blame huge bumps on them reflects partisan lenses more than reality. No one knows exact numbers. The bigger point is that things are going the wrong direction in Oklahoma.

That’s not how herd immunity works. No place has herd immunity in the US or is even close to it.

I got tested for antibodies (I was negative) the day before they announced you could get tested for free if you gave blood... FML! I had to pay $180!

BTW, there were 37 new hospitalizations reported today, the biggest increase in over 2 months and only a handful shy of the one-day record of 42.

NYC, the most herd-immune place in the US right now, has *maybe* 25% who have antibodies. Nowhere close to the 60% needed for "herd immunity." MN, PA, IL, GA is nowhere close to those numbers, most are probably still in the single digits.

How many people have truly had this though. That we will never know.

Time for another SHUT DOWN. People didn't listen the first time not sure they will with another shut down though either. And honestly I don't even think they would follow the law and shut down.

I don't think that is ever going to happen.

I agree. And if they did for how long. 3 weeks, 10 weeks, 6 months? How long is really long enough?
I know Stillwater went ape#%$& when masks were required but I think it needs to be done, and enforced, statewide.
