General Weather Discussion - September 2019

September can be very summer-like in OK, just usually more rain to offset high temperatures.

That being said, it looks like the first real coldfront of this season will arrive the first week of October.


Tonight there is an outside shot at a few storms here in C OK, this will be a low chance of storms developing on the tail end of a boundary sweeping through the area. Most of the activity will be focused to NE and E OK.

Anybody notice how hot and muggy it’s been this September? I’m curious how are average temps stack up to previous years.

If this is climate change, I don’t like it!! Fall is the best time of the year in Oklahoma!

Last September was nice. We got quite a bit of rain and highs were in the 70s-80s for much of the month. We even had a high in the 60s exactly a year ago tomorrow. Definitely felt warmer this year.

The coolest temperature at KOKC all month has been 66 degrees. For context the *average* low in September here is 63.2 degrees. The consistent heat and humidity has been extremely notable this month, and while the high temperatures should mostly settle down over the next week (with the exception of Friday), it will remain very muggy, and low temperatures won't get much below 70 until the beginning of October at the earliest.

We may finally have some relief from this pattern around next weekend, but TBD.

It's only been down to 64 during September at my Stillwater station. On the 27th, it got up to 92, kinda unusual for this late in September. It will be interesting to see if this warming trend stays up through winter and we'll have KFOR's Mike Morgan next spring saying how the averages have been higher than usual every month since September. And back to worries about Global Warming.
