Does anyone know if the construction fences are down around the park? I want to go wander the park this morning or afternoon. I know festivities don't open until 5:00, but I want to see the park itself before it gets crowded.

I walked around the entire park this morning. The fences are there, but people are walking in and out.

They’re easy to wrap around your fist for punching, I would imagine as their reasoning.

Some 90s fashion is coming back, so I guess it is possible...

I am in favor of banning them, though, on fashion grounds alone.

Ya, that seems kind of silly. The latest Cell phone cameras are getting so good that the only real difference with a "Professional" camera is that you've got many more lens options, right? I mean cell phones are getting up to 48 Megapixels now and can film 4K/60FPS.

I wonder what their justification is there?

However, the bridge is really in bad condition. Wood is warped and missing. The benches are particularly awful. It's disappointing to see it in such poor condition so soon after construction.

Almost every show/concert you go to today does not allow professional cameras. The act/venue/promoter are paying photographers for their work.

I haven’t seen a blanket ban on SLRs at any shows I’ve gone to. I’ve seen issues with bringing a backpack full of lenses, or bringing telephoto lenses. But I’ve never had an issue bringing in a camera with a basic lens.

Phones have great sensors and can shoot RAW, so if they are worried about bootleg pictures or footage they are fighting a loosing battle.

That's what happens when done on the cheap. That bridge is nothing like what they had originally planned. The first renderings were of a wonderful looking bridge and then they build what we have now and added wood boards that look like total crap.

Tons of food trucks and beer tents. Really a cool setting. One of the best things about the park is there just tons and tons of benches, so for events like this, it really works out well.

While there were definitely things that aren't "done", I thought the park looked really great. It's only going to get more special as time goes on. I haven't been to the Gathering Place. I'm sure it's fantastic and probably way better than STP, but personally I like that we have an urban park of this magnitude.

And if you didn't see on Twitter, apparently a bunch of people (concert-goers, not park employees or volunteers) picked up trash from the great lawn after the show.

Yes, they allocated a bunch of money to re-do the deck on Skydance but the work has't been done yet.

Don't know why they didn't do it while the bridge was effectively closed during almost 2 years of park construction.

Yes, but I haven't seen a building permit yet. It is already budgeted.

I haven't been to the Gathering Place. I'm sure it's fantastic and probably way better than STP, but personally I like that we have an urban park of this magnitude.

My wife and I spent a couple of days in Tulsa a few weeks ago. In addition to visiting both Philbrook locations, we also spent some time at The Gathering Place. Let me just say that it is one of the most amazing places ever. It's mostly designed for families with children, but it has something for everyone. I definitely recommend that everyone get to see it at least once. And I'm looking forward to visiting our version in the near future.

Great time last night and really loved what I got to see of the park (parts of it were still not open). Was also cool riding the streetcar there - it was full of people talking about how they'd never ridden the streetcar before but wanted to come see the new park that way. Felt like a bit night for OKC.
