As I mentioned last week, I said this weekend could be the hottest OKC has seen so far this year. Today's moisture will help to prevent the air temperature from getting too out of hand, but it will make the heat index worse. So it will not only be one of the hottest actual air temperatures, but it will easily feel the hottest. This will be for both Saturday and Sunday.


This will be a "in a pool or indoors weekend".

It's already BRUTAL out there today now that the sun's back out. Not even 90 degrees, but it feels absolutely awful with dewpoints in the mid 70's.

Nice little drink from these weak showers associated with the tiny system moving across OK right now. Sun is already back out across W OK, though. So OKC should be in the sun again by late afternoon.

The real story is a break from 100s. We will be in the low 90s Wednesday and climb back into mid 90s by the weekend.

Very small chance of a thunderstorm or two later this evening across C OK. And again in the early morning hours Sunday. If anything does develop, it could be severe.

However, chance is low, and coverage will be extremely localized. Consider yourself lucky if you get rain.

Yep. Loud and a lot of rain in Norman last night. Lot of people lost power. Weather feels amazing outside now!

I was on Kilpatrick (east side) about 8 last night and it was the hardest rain i ever recall trying to drive it. Cars were off to the side of the highway. And past Macarthur (westbound) it was almost dry.

We're just north of Penn Square and can attest to the description. Rain soaked its way through our windows onto the sills and in from some exterior wall weakness.

I was 1/2 mile west of PSM, and it blew branches from trees, covered cars in leaves, lots of lightning, and that rain!

SUNDAY AFTERNOON.

The National Weather Service in Norman has issued a
* Flood Watch for flash flooding...flooding of creeks and
rivers...and flooding of low lying areas for portions of
central Oklahoma, east central Oklahoma, northern Oklahoma,
northwest Oklahoma, and western Oklahoma, including the
following areas, in central Oklahoma, Canadian, Cleveland,
Kingfisher, Lincoln, Logan, Oklahoma, Payne, and Pottawatomie.
In east central Oklahoma, Seminole. In northern Oklahoma,
Garfield, Grant, Kay, and Noble. In northwest Oklahoma,
Alfalfa, Blaine, Dewey, Ellis, Harper, Major, Woods, and
Woodward. In western Oklahoma, Custer.

* From 10 PM CDT this evening through Sunday afternoon
* Heavy rainfall associated with widespread showers and
thunderstorms late this evening into Sunday.
* Some locations will see 1 to 2 inches of rainfall, but isolated
spots could see as much as 3 inches. These rainfall amounts
could lead to flash flooding.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

The National Weather Service in Norman has issued a Heat
Advisory, which is in effect from noon to 8 PM CDT Monday.
* HEAT INDEX VALUES...105 to 110.
* TIMING...noon through 8 pm.
* IMPACTS...The heat and humidity may cause heat stress during
outdoor exertion or extended exposure.


Information:

The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will
combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are
possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room,
stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible
and drink plenty of water. Anyone overcome by heat should be
moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency,
call 9 1 1.
