Why did the Wendy's on I-240 close? Hard to believe a national chain wouldn't make it in that area.

Wendy's is in the midst of a national streamlining of their operations and is closing 130 "underperforming" stores across the country. They're also offering heavy incentives for franchise owners to remodel their existing stores into Wendy's new "Urban" concept (link to photo escapes me at the moment) store that has been associated with increased same-store sales in their test marketing.
The I-240 location has been around for ever - they also closed the location on North May next to Taco Cabana. Hate to see 'em go. Now we've got to go down to Moore or to SW 44th for Frosties this summer
There is still a location at North May and NW 36th.
do Wendy's still have a "salad bar"?
Here is there "urban concept". Not really urban, but very cool!
Hopefully they remodel every store they have here to this.
didn't see any building permits for the address... this location might be a closure instead of a remodel. -M
Dave Thomas is rolling over in his grave on those redesigns. But I like them. Well, I like the interiors and the last exterior.
Man the last time I was at a Wendy's was over on 44th and western and I left feeling dirty I can imagine the one on two forty was in the same shape.
They actually redid that Wendy's (44th) a few years ago- not the extensive reno described here, but it was an improvement.

The Wendy's on I-240 really wasn't that bad - the outside was a little weatherbeaten, and the parking lot needed some patching up, and that goes a long way to making the place seem unpleasant. Well, I guess it went a long way now that its closed.
This property is owned by 7-11 but today a building permit application was filed for a new Wendy's.
7-11 owns all the property outlined in blue in the 2nd image below, but Wendy's is building on the north half.
What remains would be too small for a new 7-11, so I suspect that will be sold to another fast food operator.
I'm confused the sign for the longest time has said coming soon 7-11 so now it's going to be a Wendy's? Who owns the land in front of the Hotel?
Wonder if this suggests Wendy's may be building other outlets in the area...
Building permit application today to remodel the Wendy's at NW 36th and May.
Looks like they are also building a new Wendys at I40 and just south of MacArthur right by At Home
New one is almost complete on Tecumseh in Norman across from the Healthplex.
[QUOTE=SEMIweather;1093041]There are literally a dozen other restaurants within half a mile of that underpass.[/QUOTE
Good point but when I drove by today there were literally 2 shopping carts filled with stuff and trash every where right across from their parking lot. It's not a good look for a new store opening.
