They pretty much have to have it done by then, as now with the big musical act they are locked into the dates.

Not all things may be complete, however.


They have crews down there working every day, including Sunday. I know the weather has hurt but it seems they were pretty far behind before we hit rainy season. They are certainly focused now.

Yep. Will be done enough for the opening concert, at least. By the end of September, the demand for the park will be lower, so right now they can focus on the main areas.

I wouldn't be worried about them finishing at all. Looks like all the really heavy work is done and they are just sodding, landscaping, and putting the finishing touches on. Even with weather delays, three months is a long time to get those details finished. It may not be absolutely 100%, but it will be easily ready to host a concert by September.

I'm more interested to see how parking/people flow is handled for this event since the parking garages wont be finished yet. I assume a lot of people will park in the usual places to the North and walk in, but there are many who can't or won't walk that far.

There is much more in the way of structures/fixtures in the south part of the park.

There is an elaborate fountain, a big playground, a roller rink, shade structures, the lake concessions, etc.

I'd be very surprised if all of that is complete by the end of September.

Parking for this event will be interesting. It’s 5pm on a Friday. So parking garages will have downtown employees still in them as people start showing up. Could be a packed evening in downtown okc!

Good time to make use of the street car and park somewhere else!

Had to do some searching but found a semi final presentation where they had thought about up to 20,000. They obviously settled on 15,000 since this was a while ago. Can't wait to see how many people show out for this opening weekend.

Can't please all of the people...go for middle ground to get the most as possible. I am sure Metallica would have been awesome (for me) but would not appeal to as many as KoL. Country also does not appeal to me one single solitary bit. So yeah, KoL is a huge get for that reason alone.

im sure they could set up parking in the south park and people walk the bridge over. that would be one option to hold a good number of people. and there is always parking and taking the street car or uber in.

Regarding the cars, I'm sure they'll be all types of provisions and at the very least promote the use of the streetcar and parking remotely. There is a stop directly across from the main stage.

Today, I spoke with Graham Colton (of the Jones Assembly) who booked the event and who will be booking future shows at the park. There will be a big FAQ coming out in the near future answering a lot of questions.

But this has all been planned with full coordination with the city, the police department, etc. The mayor is heavily involved as well.

I'm sure they have thought through many issues and soon will be sharing details.


It's also one of those times where I think it's good to step back a bit and just think about how cool all of this is, especially considering it wasn't that long ago when we had a big ugly interstate running through this area and now not only are we on the verge of a massive new park and all the things around it, but we can start to visualize how they will be changing our community for the better and for a long time to come.
