Flight of the Conchords (HBO)

Anybody been watching this show? It comes on directly after Entourage on Sunday nights.

It's my new favorite. The two leads (Jemaine & Bret) have been together as somewhat of a parody band for a while in their native New Zealand and the shows weave in a couple of their songs, which are all very clever.

Their humor is very dry and there are lots of little subtleties that are easy to miss the first time around, but I think it's pretty darn brilliant.


Check it out if you haven't already and give it a little time to grow on you.

I've been a rabid fan since their HBO special. My oldest son saw them live at Bonaroo a few weeks ago and said they were even better live! Think about it, thinkthink about it...

They will be here in L.A. at a small venue tomorrow, but scalpers are getting hundreds for tickets.

I'm rather glad I had not seen their act previously because I know some of their hard-core fans don't like the way they've changed around some of their songs.

I sure hope this show makes it... I'm worried their humor may be a bit too dry for many.

I love dry humor! But alas, I don't have cable. I'll have to stick to watching Are you Being Served on PBS.

Misty, I'm sure the show will eventually be out on DVD.

Hey ~

Flight of the Conchords jumped onto my fave show list from the 1st episode! Their "Robo Boogie" had me rolling with laughter even after the credits were long gone. Affirmative! Mel ~ their stalker... er.... I mean... #1 fan ~ is priceless. Love that her hubby drives AND waits 2 hours so she can stake out the boys apartment. Ha!

This show is so amazing. I'd say so far that the best episode has been "Yoko". I love the song sequence, Jermaine is so hilarious. I like the two of them and Murray (Rys Darby, his Myspace has some hilarious videos of his standup). I wish Bret had as many classic lines as Jermaine, but they both play off each other so nicely that it doesn't even matter.

I really can't see how this wouldn't be a hit for HBO, especially compared to Entourage and Curb your Enthusiasm, though it reminds me more of their older shows like Mr. Show (Which was hilarious in it's own different way.) and Da Ali G Show. Good stuff.

Yeah, I'm hooked. The music sequences are hilarious. "Business Time" is downright infectious and the parody of the early 60's French musicals that they did this past week was a riot. One question I have is what happened to the PC in Murray's office? The week before last he fell in love with the woman from IT who installed it and this week he was back to using the C64 to produce the agenda for the band meeting.

On FotC's myspace site, they said some of the episodes are being aired out of order, which accounts for Murray's old/new PC.

I was glad to see them get back on track with the 'Girlfriends' episode as the two previous were below their high standars. Although I did love the Bowie video (ooh yeah, man!).


Last Sunday was episdoe #8 of 12 they have in the can. I'm hoping and praying HBO renews them for at least one more season because this is my favorite show in a very long time.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - HBO has renewed its Sunday comedies, bringing the rookie "Flight of the Conchords" back for a second season and handing out a fifth-season pickup to "Entourage."

Both shows are slated to return with original episodes in 2008.

While the renewal of the Hollywood-centered "Entourage" -- one of HBO's most popular series -- was widely expected, things weren't that certain for "Conchords," a quirky half-hour about two New Zealand musicians struggling to make it in New York.

The show starring the music-comedy duo of Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie quickly developed a cult following but came up short of the broader appeal of "Entourage."

This was a great find this summer! Cox had HBO on special so I got it just in time to discover this show (albeit halfway through), and catch episodes with onDemand.

It's not for everyone, but it's a heck of a lot funnier (and cleaner) than Entourage!
