Thread: Ollie's Bargain Outlet

  1. #1

    Northwest OKC Ollie's Bargain Outlet

Has leased 30,000 square feet of the old Buy for Less space at the Council Crossings shopping center (NW corner of Council and NW Expressway).

Building permit has been issued so work should start soon. Will be first location in the state.

Appear they may be expanding into Oklahoma aggressively. They announced a few weeks ago that they are doing a major remodel of a shopping center and opening a location in Ardmore too.

By looking at their website, they appear to be an alternative to Big Lots.

Just to clarify, this grand opening date is for both locations (OKC and MWC).

Ollies is in the process of opening a new store in the former Buy For Less/SmartSaver at Vandament and Cornwell in Yukon. The store looks like it could open in the next week or two.

This corner location in this shopping center has been a lot. It was a Dollar Tree and split with Kids Galaxy Indoor Playground. (Kids Galaxy is now in the process of relocating to North OKC off off Broadway Extension.)

Before that, this corner was a Family Dollar, and before that an Elite Thrift Store. My memory may be off, but I even think this was a Big Lots at one time, unless I'm getting it confused with the location at 15th and Broadway.

Either way, I guess there seems to be a growing market for these closeout and bargain stores. What I don't understand is how Big Lots is closing many stores, Ollie's is opening stores. Aren't they essentially the same business model?

Still wonder what will go in a mile north at Danforth and Kelly in the old Ace Hardware.

If they would remodel this shopping plaza, this would be a great place for a Trader Joe’s.

It's yet another source for all things crap. The quality of the items in the place is extremely low end, so just be aware when you purchase something, that it is likely not going to last.

I have bought books, snacks, spices, a few toys for the grandkids, and a couple other items at Ollie's. The quality has been okay. Their stores remind me of shopping at the old Gibson's Discount Centers that used to be around.

The Gibsons that was on 42nd and MacArthur was way better than any Ollies and a lot bigger. I lived right down the street from that store and shopped there all the time before there were any Walmarts around. It was a full grocery store combined with department store and hardware store. In fact when Tate Hardware closed in Warr Acres Tate moved a lot of his inventory to Gibsons and old man Tate worked there in the hardware dept. I would say comparable to a Walmart the size that is in Yukon. And if you are buying any type of food item at Ollies you better look close at the expiration dates.

ollie's is about finding that diamond in the rough product that they picked up somewhere in a closeout or bankruptcy sale. 90% of their inventory is meh products, but you can find some amazing ones at certain times. I recently found a bunch of starter decks for a card game that has been out of print for 22 years, and was able to flip them online for a huge profit.

I bought Pace pool shock at $4.99 a bag. That is half price from Leslies, plus it does not have cyanuric acid in it.

You can find a lot of the superhero 'sidekicks' from those underperforming movies from a year ago at Ollies. Great presents when you buy for the kid that invited your child to their birthday party. lol

I wonder how this compares to the stores that seemingly buy stuff from whole foods/ups/kohls that are amazon returns?
