On another note the 2021 Solheim Cup went to Inverness in Toledo

Looks like Southern Hills is in position to get the 2021 Senior PGA and 2024 PGA. Announcement coming May 30th.

I will def attend but still disappointed Oak Tree National wasn't selected or even in the running. They seemed to have some solid momentum going after the 2014 Senior Open.

Ed Evans was a key member of the original group of OKC investors who purchased the NBA Seattle Supersonics\ in 2006. Evans purchased Oak Tree National with the intent of luring another professional major event, or perhaps landing an annual stop on the PGA Tour.

Oak Tree National now the second-toughest course in America according to Golf Digest

Oak Tree was originally designed by Pete Dye. Evans invested in some major renovations of Oak Tree in 2014 prior to the 2014 Senior Open.


If anyone can bring a major tournament or an annual stop on the PGA tour, Edward Evans is your guy.

Gonna be tough. Southern Hills has been awarded PGA Championship sometime before 2030. US Open isn't on their radar either at the moment.

So if anything the best shot at anything significant in the next decade'ish is another Senior Major, US Amateur, some kind of women's event, or a Fedex Cup event.

Some news up at Oak Tree National. Ed Evans has sold the club to minority owner Everett Dobson. I feel pretty good about this. Ed has done a great job bringing the club back to it's deserved status. Everett seems like the right guy to keep that momentum going.

Dobson, one of the current owners of the Oklahoma City Thunder has the capital to turn Oak Tree around; possibly secure an annual event for central Oklahoma.

There is really nothing to turn around. That part had already been done.

Dont expect an annual tournament out here either. It's either a PGA or US Open for them.

What's the consensus on their chances of landing a major? Is it something that could happen anytime soon, or is it more likely in a decade or two once all of the surrounding roads have been expanded to four lanes?

The biggest drawback for the course now is all the houses that have been around it over the years. The setups for the most part over the last few years have been more wide open properties. Erin hills, chambers bay, shinnecock, ect. Allows for big patron areas and media tents galore. Oak Tree could get it done, but our logistics are a bit trickier.

Everything is booked up until 2030. However with the PGA HQ moving to Frisco, along with tourney moving up to May, I would say it has a better chance at landing one after 2030.
