Thread: Stand up Comedians

  1. Default Stand up Comedians

We watched John Pinette 'I'm Starving' the other night.. it was really funny!

We also watched the Comedians of Comedy... I didn't care for that at all. And we saw Delirious with Eddie Murphy... that is a classic.

What are your favorite stand up comedians or acts?

Robin Williams is my favorite, but I'm also a huge fan of Jim Gaffigan, Jeremy Hotz, Kevin James, and the late Richard Jeni. Rest in peace, Richard.

I remember the first time I ever saw Stephen Wright, probably over a decade ago. I'm not one to laugh out loud, but he absolutely killed me. I'd never heard anything that fresh and offbeat. I can still remember some of his jokes.

The greatest comedy album I've EVER heard is from what seems like 35 years ago. It was a Redd Foxx album called "Laugh Your _ss Off".

It's done live in a club and he is just out-of-this-world funny. Today, my friends and I are STILL using his lines. If you can find this album on the Internet, buy it. It shows the genius of Redd Foxx and his timing. He heckles the audience! It's incredible, and he even calls one of them the "n" word. Think about how racy that was back then. It's an adult album, be advised.

"What if mobile phones had answering machines. Mine would be I'm in right now, I'll call you when I'm out." : Stephen Wright.

Guess what? Now there is and mine is.

Sarah Silverman, Dane Cook, Lewis Black and David Cross

I was thinking about the comedy that shaped my life.

    George Carlin
    Redd Foxx
    Cheech and Chong
    Monty Python

No wonder my friends and I are never at a loss for crazy stuff to say. I've actually thought about going into a job interview with a full British Python accent, just to see if I could charm them that way. You gotta admit it would be funny.

Maybe I'll just spend the rest of 2007 in a British accent.

Brian Regan.....and he's going to be here this weekend! I'm almost always side-splitting when I hear his stuff. And Regan does the best "clean act" of anyone I've ever seen!

Man I love stand up comedians. I think the best standup I've ever seen has been Kevin James's "Sweat the Small Stuff." I love that so much. Jim Gaffigan is hilarious and actually what I have in my CD player in my truck. Mitch Hedburg, a lot of Dane Cook's stuff (which most of it is so true it's fantastic), Dave Attell, Richard Jeni, Eddie Murphy, Ben Bailey (The guy from TLC's "Cash Cab" does a pretty hilarious stand up). There's so much more I love, but that's what I've been digging on lately.

Man we need a bigger draw for stand up comedy here.

Actually I saw the most hilarious act in a long time at the Looney Bin not too long ago...maybe the end of April....anyway his name in Mike Smith and I thought I was going to die laughing! Anyone else see his show?

  16. Default Re: Stand up Comedians

That cross dressing British guy...I think it's Eddie Izzard or something like that.

Carlin and Lewis Black are a couple of others that I can usually watch...But for the most part, I can see the jokes coming LONG before the punchline with most acts, so that detracts from the funny.

But my all time favorite comedian is me. I laugh my butt off at myself all the time...And I NEVER see the jokes coming. Being schizophrenic has it's advantages from time to time.

Heck yeah we've got tickets! I used to be a "regular" for his performances in NJ/NY area, before his tours really took off. And now he's here! Can't wait to see if he's got new stuff. It was sort of annoying at some of his shows, he would try new material but the crowds would cry for his tried and true stuff, like the "You too!" bit or the chunky peanut butter. I just wanted and still want to hear some of his newer stuff.

I do have to agree, he proves wrong that a comedian has to be raunchy to be funny. He's the only comedian I would recommend for families, and he just happens to be my favorite!

If his show isn't sold out yet, GO! I think he's performing at Rose, but through the Civic Center box office.
