Thread: OU President Gallogly

According to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation, Gallogly's attitude toward Boren has become increasingly antagonistic since June. Gallogly instructed the Stephenson Cancer Center not to install a plaque memorializing Boren's brother-in-law, Dr. Augustin Henry Shi V, who died in 2016 from cancer. Shi was treated at the Stephenson Cancer Center, and Boren, along with his wife Molly Shi, donated $25,000 to the center with the understanding the plaque would be installed in the center's lobby.

The OU Foundation then returned the $25,000 gift to the Borens per their request, according to multiple sources. OU Foundation President and CEO Guy Patton declined to comment on specific donations, but noted the decision to install a plaque or memorial on university property lies solely with the university's administration.
Like I said about the last one, low class.

This is embarrassing for the university. At this point, it’s clear Gallogly doesn’t have the temperament for the position. I hope he comes to this conclusion and steps down.

Before he took office, Gallogly was critical of the university's financial status in a June 19 OU board of regents meeting. Boren countered with a letter on June 20 to the Transcript, defending OU's finances and stating a significant part of the university's debt was bonded debt with scheduled payments.

Following the publication of that letter on June 20, Gallogly told a senior OU administrator to deliver a message to Boren: “You tell him that I am the meanest son of a bitch he has ever seen, and if he ever crosses me again, I will destroy him.”

The statement was confirmed by multiple sources who spoke to the Transcript on a condition of anonymity for fear of reprisal from Gallogly.
    Unbelievable.

OUDaily reports he is saying more layoffs come at the beginning of the year but not in the "hundreds and hundreds"

Get this guy out of OU. He is doing damage both internally and externally. Poor choice

Those mean old reporters just won't give this guy any slack. It does appear though that oversight by the regents appears to be similar to Congressional oversight. This is just so unseemly. What an embarrassment.

OU misreported alumni participation and donor data to U.S. News and World Report, prompting the university’s new administration to conduct an internal investigation with the help of a private law firm, according to multiple sources and data obtained by The Daily.

Multiple sources connected to OU’s development department in Whitehand Hall, which oversees the production of alumni participation statistics, have confirmed that the university inflated the percent of alumni donors it reported to U.S. News & World Report over multiple years during former OU President David Boren’s time in office.

Given the “You tell him that I am the meanest son of a bitch he has ever seen, and if he ever crosses me again, I will destroy him.” quote, I can't help but be extremely suspicious about the timing of this alumni participation scandal.

I am going with scorned administrators who were laid off may be the sources. This quote is bizarre and I don’t see it happening

Just as I expected and just the type of over reach by those hell bent on jumping to conclusions in all their hate for Gallogly!

There is a very strong likelihood this was made up by others who hate Gallogly!

It’s pretty telling about the quality of posting done in this thread when so many so badly wanted this to true and then when this hasn’t even been posted yet and it’s hours old....Like I said up thread there are plenty of people here who do not want to give this man a chance…but for some reason I see little evidence of this anywhere except on this thread / board /echo chamber.

OU President James Gallogly denied a report from The Norman Transcript that he had threatened former President David Boren regarding disagreements over university finances.

"Absolutely inaccurate," Gallogly said when asked about the story. "That simple, no more complicated than that."

The Daily had received a similar tip but had been unable to independently confirm the story.

Gallogly said the story was "really silly."

"Why does this come up now? Apparently that was just before I took office, why does that come up now?" Gallogly said to a Transcript reporter. "Did you ever ask yourself that? I wonder why they made that up now?"

The quote as quoted does seem a little mustache twirly, but it may still catch the gist of what was actually said.

I don’t know. With the way he’s come after Boren, I can see him saying it. The guy seems to be all out to discredit others and make himself look good. Seems like some other “Presidential” behavior we’ve witnessed the last couple of years.

You could see it because you want it to be true regardless of the damage and consequences. You have made this abundantly clear!!!! Everything is political to you!

Yes, you've certainly shown yourself to be an impartial observer as well.

Beat me to it. But I think he's the poster formerly known as OU48A, so it's to be expected.

It’s not about politics. It’s about style of leadership, or lack of. There is a certain element of our society who now feels free or emboldened to use tactics that were considered unacceptable previously. Win at all cost and narcissism is an acceptable trait.

Btw, if you do not know that there has been a consistent attack on “liberal” thinking academics by far right activist business persons and politicians you’ve been living under a rock. It’s no secret there have been conservative money people in this state who have despised Boren for his years ago democratic leadership. Even though he commanded international respect for his understanding and wisdom on complex strategical issues. But, he promoted students thinking on their own and their achieving regardless of where they came from, who their family was, or how much money they have.

Boren was raiding the taxpayers for his own image much like our last administration, now we have a new guy who understands financials and is not in it for his own personal gain, win/win for the university and taxpayers

I want an ACADEMIC to head my Flagship University. He can hire a qualified, proven financial manager to report to him.

While I agree with most of this, the corollary is true, as well. If you do not know there has been a consistent attack on "conservative" financial dealings and politicos and business persons by far left (even moderate) left-thinking academics, you have been living under a rock.

At THIS university? OU and by extension this state government is the discussion here. Let's not widen the scope and drive into the weeds.

Then maybe Republican legislators will see fit to reward Gallogly for being conservative by restoring at least some of the cuts to higher education over the years. More money going to universities, such as to raise pay for faculty, can help the economies of college towns, such as Norman with other positives as well.

Boren apparently had plenty of $$ and was always asking for more from every direction possible, this situation is going to let us know him and Molly wasted it

I don't think there is anyway people can deny the economic benefit of OU to communities in Oklahoma. The Norman campus is the 4th biggest employer and the HSC is the 8th. Lots of good jobs in the university system.

Seriously, Republican legislators might as will have been denying that to be true, like in 2016, when they cut funding for higher education by nearly 16%. And like what Boren wrote, OU has received approximately the same state funding received more than 10 years ago. To quote Boren, "It is clear that no public college or university can maintain the excellence that we have achieved unless state funding returns to normal."

To respond to funding cuts by raising tuition can lead to declining numbers of student enrolling and then the bad economic side effects from that. But one can hope voter rejection of a bunch of legislators who voted no to increase teacher pay sent a message to provide better support for all public education.
