Thread: Rock & Brews

  1. Default Re: Rock & Brews

Okay, I went back tonight, and although I like the atmosphere, the food tonight was terribly disappointing for most of our party. On a group of five, four had burgers, and I had an individual-sized pizza. On all four burgers, they were charred on the outside to the point of being nearly inedible, yet they were so pink on the inside that it was grossing everyone out. I know they state on the menu that, unless otherwise requested, the burgers are cooked to medium (pink in the middle), but parts of the burgers looked almost raw. 2/10

However, I had the R&B special pizza and it was very good. 8/10

    Overall tonight, I'd give it a 4/10

Overpriced boo but dog friendly patio yay. Here is our dog-centric take :

I've never understood the appeal of bringing your dog to a restaurant. At least its just on the patio.

I think it is cool in a neighborhood setting where you might combine taking your dog for a walk with having a beer or grabbing a snack, socializing with neighbors, etc., but loading your dog up in the car to drive to a dog-friendly place seems a little odd.

I share with our pup when I am at the house.
When I go out, the pup can eat what was left for him. He ain't coming with.

    Closed last night without warning.

Location removed from the corporate website....

Looks like this location has claimed another victim.

Jeeze. Memorial Road is like a death zone for restaurants. Is it a cost of operations (ie rent) issue? There's plenty of traffic.

  9. Default Re: Rock & Brews

The couple of times I was in there for lunch it was never busy.

I actually think part of the reason that location struggles is because of traffic and it being a one way road. That and oversaturation in the area.

The entire Memorial Road corridor west of Western is just awful. Just absolutely awful. I'm shocked that anything can survive more than a year there. From Western to at least Rockwell needs a total overhaul.

That and the fact that it's heavily oriented towards casual dining chains, a sector that currently isn't doing as well as it used to. I think Chisholm Creek is really going to hurt a lot of the restaurants on Memorial Rd. Chisholm Creek's offerings are more in line with current tastes.

My wife and I went to Rock and Brews one night. It was really bad; we did not pay and did not finish our meal. I believe this actual building has had a whole history of failed tenants, dating all the way to Don Pablo's, then Buddha Tao, and of course, Dan O'Brien's.

Too many other good places to eat in OKC that are not "chain" type places. Moving here from Indiana 6 years ago I really noticed that. More mom and pop places here than in Northern Indiana. More restaurants that are just local chain type also.

No “well, it was a hard location” sentiments here. It was a so-so concept. Bad execution and further bad management sealed its fate. I can’t believe how long it lasted.

I don’t see this trend ending on memorial anytime soon...and i mean all the retro fittings of the recent failed concepts. I hate to pick on anyone, but Kwans? Who’s there 2-3times a week?

I actually ate here about a year ago. My experience was so meh that I didn't bother to write a review. I'm not surprised it closed.

Serving so-so hamburgers on Memorial? Any local would tell you that's a dumbass business plan.

I don't think I repeat anything more than once a week. YMMV

Never had a meal here, but went to several happy hours when I worked near May and Memorial. For what it is, I'll say it had a pretty impressive beer menu. Not surprised it's failed though, between the concept and the location

Same here. One of our favorite spots for happy hour. Great beer list, pretty good appetizers.

Sorry meant to say month. I, like pretty much anyone else is impressed with the cash spent on the beautiful buildout. But not impressed with much else.

And I can’t help but correct jbkrems that Dan O’Brien’s was next door in what is now a saltgrass steakhouse. Both of those buildings have been a revolving door for restaurant & bar concepts.

i dated a girl who worked there for almost a year... she said that their "rush" would be only like 10 tables. and that she hated it, because she never really made any money unless she got a bar shift... Happy Hour and sporting events seemed to fill the bar up and left the large restaurant section still pretty much empty... was surprised it stayed open as long as it did.

Uptowner... what was the other bar that opened in the old Don Pablos/Buddha Tao space... if it wasn't Dan O'Brien's wasn't it something else?

Wasn't that called Bikini's or something?

Bikini's was next door. Rock & Brews reminds me too much of S&B's Burgers. I wonder if it would have been more successful in Bricktown where I think they were originally looking at putting it. I think it is ironic that Gene Simmons, who makes a big deal about never having had a drink of alcohol in his life, owns a concept called Rock & Brews. The franchise owner in OKC is from Overland Park, Kansas I believe. The are supposed to be building a Rock & Brews Hotel/Casino in Braman, Oklahoma with the Kaw Tribe. I wonder how that is going, I have not been up that way in two years.
