Thread: RC Track looking for new location

Default RC Track looking for new location

Was in here tonight and the owner(Gary) said his lease is running out and he's looking for some place in the general area of around 10,000 sq/ft. If anyone knows of a suitable location that would be good for an indoor electric RC track; let him know.

Now that hobby one does for "the love of the sport". It's not exactly a profit generating activity. If I had a big enough metal building or an extra warehouse or extra space in a warehouse; I'd let him use it rent free. But I don't right now.

I know there is a lot of idle and vacant retail space out there. Sure one wants it full all the time and all tenants paying max rent. But until the economy turns around; it might be a little while.

The way I see it: let's say I owned a huge shopping center or strip mall. Had some vacant spaces. Choices. Just leave them vacant for the next 10 years. Or put some businesses in there so my center is full and lively? You want want traffic and activity and a vibrant area? Or leave it idle and half occupied?

Just saying if I had the space; I'd reach out to him. If anyone here knows a place that would be a great place to have an RC track and hobby store; please let him know.

Curious also what is going into the old Builders Square location(was pole position indoor electric karts).

I think it’s the same reason most restaurants donate their food in lieu of discounting it at the end of the night. If you give people your product simply because it didn’t sell, they are more likely to not buy it until after you discount it. While it seems like a good idea on the surface, landlords can’t really do that because then everyone will want that sweetheart deal

But if that sweetheart deal still gets money coming in, but otherwise nothing, then it's clearly in the best interest of the landlord to reach for the sugar. It's not like food that is either sold, given away, or rots. It's retail space that if it doesn't sell for $X/sqft, is going to sit there still costing money for upkeep. When the market speaks, an intelligent landlord listens.

Huh, I had no idea Competition RC closed. It's been a long time since I've been racing though - like early 2000's. Competition RC closed in September of last year because they too lost their lease, and the owners were ready to retire. That said, according to Competition RC's facebook page, no, they are not affiliated with 405 RC Raceway.

Looking at pictures of the inside of 405 RC Raceway brought back some memories... Reminds me a lot of RC/RC, back when they were in the strip mall next to H&H Shooting Sports. 405 has a similar kind of setup. RC/RC's been closed for a long time now though, sadly... they were my track of choice. I raced there often as a kid with my Dad. Even got to meet Brian Kinwald there back in the day!

I think this is the one at NW 36th and May, the old Mr. How Warehouse. Pole Position was in there and they closed because they lost their lease. Pete, when a company "loses their lease", is that terminology for ownership has other plans for the building..... aka another tennant?
