Thread: Gopuram

    Default Gopuram

I noticed the old Louie's location at 412 S Meridian was being painted today. I looked up permits, and it looks like it's still owned by Hal Smith, but the remodel is for "Gopuram", which I believe is an Indian place located on 23rd street. Not sure if they are relocating or just opening another location.

That building was sold last month to the people behind Champion Hotels, which operates a couple of dozen hotel properties around OKC.

I believe this will be a 3rd location for Gopuram, as they also have one on Memorial across from Mercy Hospital.

Love Gopuram, but the 23rd St location is still much closer for us. Not sure it makes too much since to keep both open and operating 2 miles from each other. But for selfish reasons, hope 23rd stays open and this is branded differently or a different concept altogether.

23rd and S. Meridian are completely different markets, though.

I bet they will operate both plus Memorial.

You're right; they are different markets. And I definitely hope they keep all 3 operating. But it just seems so darn close to one another. I haven't been during peak hours in a long time, but Gopuram 23rd is never a full house when we go. Opening that one at Reno and Meridian cuts off a good chunk of their customer base. I know a lot of people come up from the hotels near the airport , or at least that's what I was told a while back. Either way, I hope they know what they're doing as we really enjoy their food at both 23rd and Memorial locations.

Confirmed that they will be closing down the 23rd location. I-40/Meridian supposed to be open in the next month or so.

Anyone been to the new Gopuram location yet? Still pretty much like the old 23rd location?

I haven't been to the new site at 412 S. Meridian but know they opened there 10/31/18 and simultaneously closed the 23rd Street location.

Went recently on a Friday night and here’s my take. Food hasn’t changed, still very good quality. Tikka Misala was great as always. The vibe of the place is totally different. Very bright and open, clean as well but who knows how long that lasts. The old location was dark and furniture was needing some tlc. It was too busy the night we went but I suspect their lunch biz is good. Hopefully the decision to move was a good one for them. Still our go-to for Indian buffet in the metro.
