I know a lot of people on this board hated Aubrey, but this would have never happened if he was still alive. To plop this down in that spot is just a crime.
He was many things to a lot of people but nobody can say he didn’t care or have a great vision of what OKC can be. I’ve avoided this intersection just so I don’t have to see it and complain, pretty surprised NH let this happen. Almost anything would be better use of this space. I’d rather it be a CVS.
Reminder that the entire time CHK owned that property it was an ugly Shell station. It was renovated to the full-service Bolen after Glimcher / Washington Prime acquired it.
They also paid a ridiculous sum of $3 million for less than a third of an acre then ended up selling it for $500K.
It became Bolens in late 2013. You can see on Google Maps that on 5/2013 it was still a Shell.
It was announced that Aubrey was out at Chesapeake in January of 2013 and his official last day was April 1, 2013.
So, CHK did own the station when it became Bolens (Glimcher / WP closed 2/28/14) but Aubrey was long gone.
Hopdoddy sign is up; Starbucks moving fast:
![]()
Is that a sign for a new cupcake place next door?
Those cupcakes were a lie.
Still a big ugh.
Sign on Starbucks says they open in 6 days.

They haven't changed the sign today. Yesterday they posted 6, so I believe today is 5. Sorry, I drive by at least twice a day.![]()

That photo was taken last night.
The old Starbuck's is closing today.
I see the Mermaid flashing gang signs is up !
The new Starbucks is open as of this morning. The parking lot was FULL when I drove by and there were 3 cars backed up to the ordering station in the drive-through. This was at 10:30 am, not rush hour. They will kill it here with the new building.
Sad. I liked that location because it was one of the few left that was a remnant of 2005, when Starbucks was still trendy and "cool." Back when they were a destination where you went to meet friends and hang out and before they had a drive-thru. There's kind of a nostalgia aspect to it from my college days. Hard to believe that it was once one of those chains that everybody was in a frenzy about when it was announced they were finally coming to OKC. Nowadays it's the McDonalds of coffee.
