Has anyone else been by Bad Axe Throwing on Reno in downtown?! I went on Saturday and I HIGHLY recommend it to everyone! Its super fun! You can even bring in your own alcohol and food if you book as a group. There was a party that brought a bunch of beer and a handle of whiskey to drink with their pizza. It makes me slightly nervous that some roudy batchlor party or something might get into a fight and have axes in their hands, but the guy said they haven't had any issues yet. For $20 per person per hour for walk ins you get 3 axe types to chose from and a lane with a target at the end. They have fun dart type games to play if you want to make it a bit more interesting.

I've always wondered about the term team building... My office never does anything like this and we function pretty well as a team.... Is team building really effective at team building or is it just code for day off?

Well in our case we are working crazy hours at our accounting firm so any time off is very much appreciated before the very busy time comes upon us.

It’s kind of like a company pick nick without stealing a Saturday from everyone. And it’s a full write-off.

Edit: company picknicks on Saturday are thrown by the same people who get married during bedlam.

I've worked for companies that did 'team building' type activities and for companies that didn't. The one's that did seemed to be more efficient and the employee morale was better. It was smaller companies who saw the benefit in such activities. My larger employers (and when I worked for the state) didn't seem to care.

I can definitely see how it could build morale. Not many people are going to be upset to get paid to goof off. I know I wouldn’t for sure.

As an owner of a small business with 10 employees, it is important that everyone who works there enjoy not only their job...but the people they work with. It gives an opportunity for the staff to actually socialize with each other and enjoy their co workers without the hustle of work demands. A cohesive group is much more efficient.

I guess that's where my office differs in the approach. We tend to do these things after work... Thursday night golf group in the warmer months and a group of us go over to Stonecloud after work on Fridays and we have the occasional monthly get together.... We just don't call it team building but I guess that would explain why we work well as a team. We do things together outside of work.

I know we have gotten a bit off topic here but I will add a little bit more to this discussion. We have a pretty diverse team age-wise. When we do things outside of work hours not everyone would show up. Our most common outing is to Fassler Hall when the weather is nice and the older people don't show and the people with kids go home early to spend time with their families. (Which they totally should). This will be our first time to close the office early to have everyone together. We have invited families if they want to come as well. I will let you know how it goes.

Do they give any one-on-one axe throwing tips - or is it like a gun range and you simply rent your lane and you're on your own?

Without ever having gone to this or even knowing anything about the business, this seems like a liability waiting to happen. I mean, all it takes is one incident/accident and the place will prob never recover. And I’m sure everyone signs a waiver, but there’s plenty of people that sue, waiver or not. How long has this chain existed? Surprised there hasn’t been any incidents that made national headlines.

That’s a good point. I misread and thought they served alcohol, which I could see it taking a wrong turn, if that were the case. But just byob from what I understand. Again, probably not the greatest idea to get a bunch of drunk people together with access to a deadly weapon.

They've been around since 2014 and started in Canada. I'm guessing they have liability insurance albeit it probably costs a little more than normal for a place that lets you throw axes.

They have workers there and they're pretty good about showing you how it works. As you progress, most of the employees are pretty skilled so I've seen them teach different types of throws and such to returning patrons.

So they have nets? Must be a reason for that. I bet a lot of falls that have occurred are alcohol related.
