Thread: Junk Haulers

    Default Junk Haulers

So I have a storage shed full of crap I've been paying for, and it's a waste of money. Old store fixtures, shelving, a copy machine, etc. It's a total waste of money and I'd rather throw everything away than pay for it anymore. Any suggestions on a service to come empty it out and haul it off?

A bit off topic - but - I've always wondered what they do with the junk they haul off? Does it go to the landfill? Do they sort through it and keep some or sell it? Do things of value get donated? I know people just want it gone... I just always wondered where it goes.

That's a good question. I'm sort of hoping it might offset the cost of the haul off, as most of the stuff is resellable (grid panels, filing cabinets, etc).

Ever thought of taking a few pics and posting to Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, Let Go or Offer Up - offer it as "everything for $XXX.00 and you haul it off. No picking and choosing. Take it all."

Good lord what have I unleashed. The Craigslist folks are blowing up my phone. Thanks for the suggestion Brian. I have a feeling the stuff will be gone tomorrow.

Years ago I used to do my own small junk hauling business. If I did a haul that was only trash, then I would charge the full pop for what it took to properly dispose of it, pay for overhead and make some money. But there were hauls where there was a lot of good stuff, and the owner knew it, but just didn't want to deal with it. That's when I would charge less to do the haul as I knew I could turn around and flip the good stuff and more than make the difference on the back end.

These junk haul businesses have become pretty popular, but there's no way I would pay them when there are lots of scrap haulers who will do it for free if they can cash in on anything good. Just tell them they can have the good, but they have to take it all.
