When you were "peeking" you were looking at the North part of restaurant/bar. That is what became the Prow Lounge. No women (well not many), several pool tables and a nice place to sit after work for a beer to wind down before going home. It was the working man's "Governer's Club". The Governer's Club was in Lincoln Plaza.
