Dont know if this is any use for the thread starter now but for FWIW, I happen to be a gym rat and could tell you things to do everyday that will maximize your efforts.
1. Drink AT LEAST 1 gallon of water a day. Studies show that this will maximize your body's metabolism and increase it in the range of 50%... wow how easy is that just drink a gallon everyday and notice the results.
