Gardens Conjure Movie Magic with “Screen on the Green”

The Myriad Botanical Gardens is set to entertain families and film-fanatics alike with its newest venture, “Screen on the Green,” a series of FREE outdoor movies debuting later this month. "Screen on the Green" will premiere at 9 p.m. on June 21 on the Gardens' Activity Plaza west of the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory. Two movies will be screened during the summer, and one will be presented in early fall.

“This is an idea we’ve been working on for a very long time,” said Allan Storjohann, Myriad Gardens manager. “Thanks to the Myriad Gardens Foundation, we’re now able to make it happen.”

The three films selected for this year’s program include:

June 21 “Singin’ In the Rain”
July 19 “Casablanca”
October 11 “The Wizard of Oz”

The films in June and July will begin at 9 p.m. The October film will begin at 8 p.m.

"Screen on the Green" is hosted by the Myriad Gardens Foundation, which provides capital and educational support to the Gardens through its membership and special fund-raising projects. Event sponsors include Sonic-America's Drive-In and Cox Communications.

“For us, it’s the opportunity to offer classic, family-friendly movies in a refreshing, new environment,” said Dee Mussallam, Myriad Gardens Foundation Board Member. “Who wouldn’t want to enjoy a film classic under the Oklahoma sky?”
