Wow, I just saw the impossible, a Swedish guy I've never heard of beat Nadal in the French Open. It was one of the coolest matches I've seen since I watched Andy Murray beat Nadal (I think that was the U.S. Open?).

It's going to be a fantastic French Open this year, because now everything has been turned on its head. Roger Federer must be a very happy man tonight.

Congratulations to Roger Federer on his first French Open win. I was really glad to see it. The crowd was behind him the whole time. I was also impressed with the wonderful demeanor of Robin Soderling, especially in his post-match interview. Very nice guy. I'll be rooting for him a lot in the future. If I was Roger, I'd be buying Robin a new car as a thank-you for dispatching Nadal. :-)

Just saw this on Twitter from CNN Breaking News:

"Defending champion Rafael Nadal confirms withdrawal from Wimbledon after losing his battle to fully recover from injury."

WOW! This might be Roger Federer's year after all! Can you imagine now, that he wins Wimbledon after the French Open! Yowsa!

There is an article in this months Architect Magazine about the new retractable roof on Centre Court at Wimbledon.

Thanks, I'll read that when I get a chance. I had forgotten about that, and thank goodness they can now play their matches on schedule.

I have sat through many a rain-ruined day watching Wimbledon on TV, while they showed previous matches just to fill the time.

This is going to be one very exciting Wimbledon this year, but then again, they all are to me. Even if Roger is beaten, that means someone else will have a truly magical moment, because no one but Federer and Nadal have won it for the past several years.

Serena Williams showed her true colors at the US Open last night. She may have a lot of trophies and a lot of money, but she doesn't have a speck of class.

Even John McEnroe could not defend her, saying "I can't defend the indefensible", and Mary Carillo said that Serena should get an Oscar for her performance at the press conference. There was no admission of guilt, wrongdoing, anything whatsoever, she just sat there and skirted questions like it never happened.

I look forward to a final where the contestants behave like civilized people. There should be no screaming, no ridiculous grunting, no showboating before, during, or after the match, and with a little luck, whoever wins will be gracious enough to acknowledge the qualities of their opponent.

And maybe Serena would like to try serving from behind the baseline sometime. It's in the rules, but of course, Serena thinks she's above the rules and decorum of a tennis match. And as for the smashed racquet, try that sometime at your local tennis club and see how long it takes the manager to throw you out.

If you're in tennis and McEnroe thinks you were a bit out of line ... hell, I can't add to that.

Mary Carillo wanted her suspended, and said that the $10,500 fine they levied against her was basically nothing at all. Mary said it was the ugliest outburst she'd ever seen on the women's tour, and probably one of the worst even among the men. McEnroe was just kinda trying to sink under his chair during the commentary, knowing that he's one of the worst violators of all time.

It was wonderfully ironic that this happened on the same day that they showed a huge "situation" years ago in a Nastase/Connors match, which became a total fiasco, and also I believe they aired the famous Connors "You're an abortion" match when he was berating the chair umpire.

I was worried that they'd let Serena slide, but thankfully she got a dose of discipline she has badly needed for many years. The Williams sisters, and indeed the entire family, seems to be the most arrogant group of people I've ever seen in tennis. You'd think they'd have some graciousness about them, with all the money and success in the family, but their true roots come through every match. Total lack of class.

And I just saw a new and interesting link:
