Thread: Crossroads Mall

You say I am uniformed but are there any major anchors at Crossroads? Has that changed or was I uniformed? You did not answer my question on the anchors(Soonerman did but you ignored him). The last gang class I took (Nov 08) talked about Crossroads and its problems with gang activity. Those people who informed me do know what they are talking about unlike you Atlanta159. Keep dreaming about the wonderful world of Crossroads mall where you can do anything but shop at a major retail anchor store. You seem to be oblivious to what is going on around you.

It does not matter, I will be shocked if Crossroads makes it to this time next year. Just curious Atlanta159, do you own a shop or work at Crossroads?

I don't think Crossroads is going to make it to the end of the year. But we'll see.

I don't necessarily think the mall will close but.. the days of being a retail destination are over. The remaining retail chains will most likely leave this summer if not after the Christmas Shopping Season.

I think the city should sink a money into it and turn it into a city event center. A simple remodel could change the mall into a meeting and convention center site.

It could be used to host events of all sizes. The spaces could be rented out to people for family events, company meetings, trade shows, concerts, community events, school and church functions, the list goes on.

The mall already has plenty of parking and access to I-35 and I-240.

The building is in place so why not put it to good use.

Should the day come it isn't a mall, perhaps it's next best use might be an Education Center. Put eac of the following in an old anchor: O-Trip, Rose State, OU-OCCE, OCU and then put Phoenix and some other smaller type schools in the twixt and 'tween spaces.

Hate to admit it, but that is the best idea so far.

i say, once all the tenants are out, pay 1 dollar to get a bat and take 3 wacks at the building inside or out, once all the glass and stuff is broken, then charge 25 dollars for each wrecking ball swing, might as well make some money tearing it down

i was just in colorado visiting my aunt. she lives across the street from what used to be one of south denver's best shopping malls. even though the mall was still in good shape and still had it's anchor stores, i'm assuming the owners realized that the indoor shopping malls of the 60's and 70's were on their way out. they've begun a redevelopment to turn southglenn mall into a place where people can live, work, and play. i love crossroads mall. i spent many happy hours in the arcade and shopping for back-to-school clothes. it seems that at some point that is coming soon, crossroads will no longer be a viable shopping destination (if that hasn't already happened). i think that crossroads should be redeveloped, possibly in the same way that southglenn has been. i realize that the demographics for the two areas are quite different, but "if you build it, they will come", right? i would love to see a vibrant, upscale, urban community on the site of crossroads mall that south oklahoma city can be proud of. take a look at the link to the new streets of southglenn development that's under construction and tell me what you think. Yeah, Denver has several of those old mall/turned new mixed-use developments. That would be a much needed reuse of Crossroads!

Wow that's got to sting... they just put PacSun on their large road signs where the anchors were once displayed. Those signs are not cheap.

Stolen car chase ends in chic mall store
    ED DONEY REPORTING
    June 10, 2009

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A high-speed chase through north Oklahoma City ends inside Quail Springs Mall, as shoppers are hurried to the back of a store while police come in with guns drawn.

It all began Tuesday morning, when Oklahoma City police say two young, white males were stopped for speeding on Broadway Extension, south of Memorial road. But as an officer approached their window, they hit the gas; which began the high-speed chase.

The two suspects eventually ran inside Quail Springs Mall and bought two t-shirts and a hat at a Pac Sun store to disguise themselves, but a person who noticed the commotion had no problem telling police where to find them.

"They (suspects) had run in and they were all sweaty and in a very big hurry and bought some clothes to change into," says Lt. Michael Norris. "The citizen said 'there's a couple of guys over there changing clothes. That might be who you're looking for.'"

Police say the suspects were arrested while in the process of changing clothes. Their names aren't being released at this time.

Police say the 2009 Ford Edge they were driving was stolen from a dealership in Tulsa. The vehicle's tag was also stolen from a van in Tulsa that was purchased last month.

Stores seem to be dropping like flies. . . Seems like stores would be really concerned about exponential store loss right now. . .

lol..i remember in the 1980s when sooner mall was called sooner fashion mall...i guess they aint so fashionable anymore.

yeah, it breaks my heart to see crossroads on life support like this, i really liked this mall. quail springs was just too far from me,.and penn square mall seemed really awkward..just never had that mall feeling or persona to it.

i know if crossroads mall does die, one of the last anchors to leave will be eastern treasures..that store has been there for eons.

i dont get why there seems to be this renewal trend of if a shopping mall dies out, just replace it a few years later with an open-air mall not too far away. its what happened to heritage park mall...and since its largely known that the area surrounding crossroads mall is blighted,..the replacement outdoor mall for crossroads has been taken about 7 miles south to I-35 and 19th street.

Jc penneys is already relocated there, and i expect other tenants to follow suit.

other may argue that the business of crossroads has even ventured further south to norman where they are building their outdoor mall right along 35 and robinson.

why should anyone have to start up their ignition each and every time after leaving one store to go to the next in an outdoor mall...it defeats the purpose of the convienence that an indoor mall afforded to the shopper: park it in one place and shop all you want at different stores.

By the time Crossroads management got through the legal entanglements, Sears was having (more) troubles, and was no longer interested even though they did not want to stick around that increasingly unfavorable 44th street location.

    Now, both are stuck.

I've mentioned this before, but I've heard rumors for years that the *early* years of Crossroads management were entangled in warring factions among the owners which had less to do with Crossroads itself than the war of between the owners. Years of neglect finally took their toll.

what irks me like crazy is why Kohl's couldnt have located in Crossroads right after Wards demise?, because Kohl's came into the local scene right around late 2001, early 2002.

i dont think im out of line by thinking Kohl's is arrogant

mireaux, most of us still call it Sooner Fashion Mall!

The problem is, outside of Chic-Fil-A, that everytime we lose a store inside the mall, or the area around the mall deteorates more and more, and we lose businesses there, they will go north, or south of us. This gives small towns like Moore, or up on northside better chances than southside has.

Southside is filling up with bingo hall laden plazas, and now a dying mall. Stinks to hear about Sonic, and now Radio Shack.

I still hold onto hope that the mall will either get revived, or they tear it down and put a better shopping district in there, and all the surrounding area. Especially filling up the areas with downright nasty broke looking parking lots.

I don't want to lose more and more to Moore and northside, because I live on southside and want to see it flourish like a small town seemingly is. No reason to lose all the revenue.

That isn't how Kohl's operates, I have never seen one inside a mall, they have all pretty much been stand alone stores in big-box malls. There are many reasons for not locating in a traditional mall, the main one is probably the lease and percentage of sales that a traditional mall would take (at the time of their expansion) versus what the lease arrangement is on a big-box mall which has traditionally been much cheaper property. The traditional malls have done a bunch of things as well that has sealed their own fate, one sided leases are the biggest of them.

I never understood why Sonic spent the $$ building into Crossroads in the first place. Radio Shack has been gone for some time; it was gone the last time I was in Crossroads, and that was at least several weeks ago.

I have nothing on which to base this other than a bit of introspection, but I have to believe that since we have some concrete info on Chick-Fil-A readying to build @ I-240 and Western, I would predict the Crossroads location would close shortly after the new one opens.

Is Candyopolis still open? I'm scratching my head trying to think of what's left; Orange Julius was literally packing stuff up into boxes the last time I was out there, and the signs were being taken down. I guess there's still the Hallmark store on the 2nd floor, and that spa on the first floor, but its getting harder to remember anything of value out there.

    Sad.
