  1. Lightbulb So what will you do Thanksgiving morning to avoid the carb coma?

My recommendation to start off Thanksgiving day which typically ends in a carb-induced coma is to get out and try a healthy first course ... the Turkey Trot Classic hosted by Eagle Ridge Institute. Come on, grab those running shoes and lace them up -- drag along a few friends and family members and work up an appetite.

This family-oriented Thanksgiving Day event offers fun-filled activities involving an 8K run starting at 9 a.m. to a “1-Mile Fun Run/Walk” starting at 9:10 a.m. and the “Little Gobbler Dash” at 9:45 a.m. Festivities and check-in begins at 7 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23 at Stars & Stripes Park located at the south shore of Lake Hefner.

I can’t think of a better way to kick-off the holiday season than by getting out and getting fit with family.

The Turkey Trot has become Eagle Ridge Institute’s Thanksgiving Day tradition to promote healthy life choices for youth and families. Last year, approximately 1,000 people from more than 30 town’s in Oklahoma and from 21 states participated in the state’s only USA Track and Field sanctioned and certified Thanksgiving Day race. Registration is $22 for the 8K run, $17 for the 1-mile fun run/walk and no charge for the Little Gobbler Dash for ages 0-14. To register visit Eagle Ridge Institute - Oklahoma City or call (405) 840-1359.

Eagle Ridge Institute has been serving Oklahoma for more than 20 years by promoting healthy lifestyles for family preservation, youth development, and community progress. Eagle Ridge Institute’s primary focus is providing drug and alcohol prevention and treatment services to at-risk youth and families. Eagle Ridge Institute provides over 18 programs and services for youth, families, women, and communities and is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization whose programs are certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).

Sounds like too much activity for Thanksgiving. Besides, I kinda enjoy the carb coma.

Just think though -- if you increased your activity it would increase your appetite and make more room for carbs. Also, you could eat guilt-free throughout the rest of the holiday season ... "Uhm, yea, I excercise in the past 30 days!"
