Default need help converting an mp4

I am needing help converting an mp4 to play with a home DVD player or to a format windows media player can play. I have quicktime that is supposed to be compatible but it is not. I can play it in iTunes which I think uses the upgraded version of Quicktime Pro. Any help?

Also where can I download a good DVD decoder for my laptop to play DVD's?

There should be an MP4 Codec that you can just plug in to MS Media Player.

    http://www.xvid.org/

I'm always able to find my codecs at xvid. Give 'em a shot.

    That's the file you need.

    (if you're running windows)

    Metro,

Converting MP4 to MP3, which is what you need to do, is easy. In iTunes, open the MP4 in iTunes, select the song, then go to the "advanced" menu and select "convert selection to" and choose MP3.

If it is a purchased song, it will not convert.

Now, if it is an MPEG4 video (noticed the mention of a DVD player), you will need to convert it to MPEG2. Unfortunately, there is not a good selection of converter software around to convert MPEG4 to MPEG2. Most convert it from MPEG2 to MPEG4. MPEG4 is used mostly for DivX, which makes the process difficult for conversion since DivX is very proprietary.
    Continue the Renaissance!!!

It's an mp4 video file. Originally shot on a home DVD camcorder but a friend ran it through some encoder/decoder programs to get it to .mp4. I need help getting it into a format that I can burn a DVD for home use if at all possible.
