Default Primary Care Doctors in Mid-Del/Choctaw Area

We recently moved back to the OKC area after eight years away. The doctors we used to see are retired, so we need to find a new primary care doctor, and, in turn, get recommendations for the specialists we might need. We had driven by a Midwest Primary Care Clinic at Reno and Post but when I went there today, I realized it was empty. Does anyone have any suggestions where we could start to find a new doc? We've heard about doctors' groups where you pay a yearly fee...I don't even know where to start looking for something like that. Thanks.

Midwest Medical Group (on Douglas, I think) has a very good reputation.

The fee based stuff is VERY expensive. Dr. Dimski is one that is in MWC. Remember, they have to keep a smaller patient base in order to do things this way, so the cost is higher. And if you dont see a doctor often, you pay a lot for nothing. He used to be part of Midwest Family Physicians (now part of OU) at Douglas/Wonga (across from the Midwest group at Bowling Green). He made the split out to that rather than absorb into the OU system with the rest of the group. My parents saw him at Midwest Physicians and elected not to continue with him after the change based on his astronomical fee for the "privilege" of being his patient...ha.

But really, your first stop is to see who participates in your insurance. Narrow that based on the hospitals you want to be able to be admitted to. I would recommend finding one that has privileges at a facility other than MRMC. You can usually see those pieces of information on the insurance site.

Thanks for the info. Apparently there are two groups just across from each other on Douglas. One of them might be the group that moved out of that empty place at Reno/Post. Any idea about the OU Group? As much as it would hurt my little Cowboy heart, I guess I could go to a place named OU if I had to. From what I've heard about MRMC, I agree that if I have to go to a hospital, I'd prefer it not be MRMC.

And another thought - the OU Group doesn't accept GEHA, IAW their website. That's a bit strange in an area with so many government employees.

You might see if Dr Kelley (13190 NE 23rd St) is taking new patients.

My Primary is actually in that OU group at Douglas/Wonga. I've been going to him for 15 years. And actually I see him more online through a telemedicine app than in person. google Dash-N-Doc for more info...I love the thing for primary doc visits like sinus infections and whatnot. It's not through insurance so its out of pocket non-deductible applying/etc, but I don't have to take off and drive to the office and under my old insurance was actually cheaper than what I would have paid ou-of-pocket on my HSA plan to see him in person. Of course, for more than routine things, I still go see him in person. So it's just a thought for something different.

I have heard from quite a few people that the Midwest group just north on Douglas should be avoided. Its the building across from East Side Church of Christ. I have never seen the physicians there myself, but have not heard good reviews about them from those I know that have gone there in the past. Like with any group, it really comes down to your experience with the doctor you see. And for be, the experience the billing department gives you. Our pediatrician is through Oklahoma City Clinic. The doctors have been great, but billing seems to be a MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR challenge for them....OMG!

My primary care physician, Dr William McAfee, just moved to St Anthony south at 29th and Douglas. There are about five family care physicians there and I'm very impressed with how office is run. They take most insurance, including GEHA and BCBS.
What I like is that they post the wait times as they change. They keep them updated, too - sure helps to know when you get there!
