    Default Rudderless

This movie has been mentioned a number of times in a few other threads. Perhaps it deserves a thread of its own.

Written by Edmond natives Casey Twenter and Jeff Robison.
Directed by William H. Macy, who also helped with the screenplay.
Produced by Tee Rob Pictures and Kundali Entertainment

Starring William H. Macy, Felicity Huffman, Selena Gomez, Billy Crudup, Anton Yelchin, and Laurence Fishburne.

    Synopsis:
"A grieving father in a downward spiral stumbles across a box of his recently deceased son's
demo tapes and lyrics. Shocked by the discovery of this unknown talent, he forms a band
in the hope of finding some catharsis."

Good shot from the fb page:

Evidently from when they were out scouting locations.

I've often enjoyed the work of Macy and Fishburne. I'm not very familiar with the work of either Gomez or Huffman. I looked at imdb.com and concluded I had simply never seen the vast majority of their work.

I have to make an amendment here.

I mentioned Macy as being part of the cast above. He is the director, for certain. But after looking into it a bit further, I don't think he'll be in front of the camera in this movie.
    Just the director.

(He's not listed in the IMDb cast list. Maybe he'll make a cameo appearance.)

So they wrapped at Hefner a couple of weeks ago. Also shot at Guthrie I understand. I wonder if they are still shooting in the state at other locations, if they are done here or totally wrapped?

Somehow I got on this mailing list. I am no actor but my great aunt was before she died so I think she put me on the list.

Anyway, I get emails from the casting director in Norman for everything that is filming in the state including movies and commercials. They are constantly looking for extras.

    on the set of RUDDERLESS

Filming of the motion picture RUDDERLESS came to an end last night in downtown Oklahoma City after 26 days of photography.

The film is the directorial debut of Oscar-nominated actor William H. Macy (FARGO, "SHAMELESS"). It stars Billy Crudup, Anton Yelchin, Laurence Fishburn, Selena Gomez, Felicity Huffman, Ben Kweller, Kate Micucci and Jamie Chung.

But the film also stars 24 local principal actors, dozens of featured extras and hundreds of volunteer extras. The film also hired dozens and dozens of local crew members

Several Actor Factory students appeared as cast members, featured extras and extras.

"It's been a fun ride and we sure hate to see this one end," was posted on Freihofer Casting's Facebook page Sunday afternoon. "Our thanks go out to everyone that worked on this project. When you see it, you will be very proud you played a part in this very special film."

There is no word yet on a release date. Check the Monday Morning Memo for updates.

I really like the work of William Macy and I really like Oklahoma and I like music-themed movies (like that recent one with Jeff Bridges) so this movie is definitely on my "To See (probably in a theater)" List.

Is he actually beginning his "directorial career" as an "actor/director" in this one?
That would seem to be extra challenging. Sure hope he has a good script with which to work yet I doubt that he would have gotten involved in this project if it isn't a good story well screenplayed.

oops: Missed post #6. I guess I'm a bit disappointed that he won't be in front of the camera . . .
(are you sure that's correct? who is going to play "the dad" character?)

I'm also interested in seeing the film now. To be quite honest, if it hadn't been filmed in the OKC area, I probably would never have heard about it or be all that interested in any event.

But... since it was, I can't resist having a look so I can spy for location shots: hey, that's the UCO campus!... hey, that's Lake Hefner!... etc.
I think it will be interesting (and a little weird) to see locations that I recognize from daily life in the background of a movie.
