Just learned that the Federal Reserve Bank -- who sold this building to local investors in 2006 but stayed on as a tenant -- is moving to Leadership Square. The Federal Reserve built this building in 1922.
Their lease is up and they no longer need all the bank vaults and other facilities built into this structure, so they are taking about the same amount of space (23,000 square feet) on the third floor of the north tower, the offices formerly occupied by the Thunder before they relocated to Chesapeake Arena.
They are spending $690,000 to renovate that space for their use and will likely move just before the end of the year.
In the process, the entire 3rd floor of this building will become available for the rapidly expanding AMPEX (formerly American Precious Metals Exchange), which will then have the entire building to itself.
APMEX | Silver, Silver Bar, Silver Bars, Silver Bullion, Gold and More - APMEX.com | APMEX.com
APMEX is headquartered in this building with an office in New York as well.
From Wikipedia:
In 1999, founder Scott Thomas created Edmond Coins in Edmond, Oklahoma. That same year the company was re-named American Precious Metals Exchange. It wasn’t until 2003 that the website, www.APMEX.com,was created and went live. In 2009, APMEX began shipping internationally to Canada; now they ship to 61 international countries.
The year 2010 brought growth, and the company moved to the former Federal Reserve Bank building of Oklahoma City, constructed in 1922. Two years later APMEX launched their subsidiary, Citadel, providing high security private storage through the security of Brinks. In late 2012, APMEX launched the APMEX Bullion Center on eBay and 2013 a new website was created. Early 2014 brought development when APMEX joined partnerships with eBay Germany, launching their international bullion center.
Over the years APMEX has created relationships with all major Mints of the world and is an authorized seller of the U.S., Perth, and Royal Canadian Mints to name a few.
What a fine looking building. They just don't seem to build em like they used too.
It would be cool if they built a tower on top of this.
