    Default Our Idiot Brother

This is a touching and wonderful movie. I highly recommend seeing it. I also highly recommend not taking your children to see it.

You need to be specific about this.

    1. Why is there no backlash with having the word 'Idiot' in the movie?
    2. Why do you highly recommend it? What is it about?
    3. What is wrong about the movie that children are prohibited to enjoy?

    Why should there be?

If I were you, I'd go to IMDB and read up on it.

    1. He's just a stoner with a heart of gold.
    2. The characters, the plot.
    3. Threesome, gratuitous testicle shot, language etc... It's a movie about adults, and it's a good one.

I don't know about the rest of ya, but I've had an idiot brother, more than one actually. They'd say the same about me. Then we'd all get along anyway .... most of the time.

Thunder, some humor is not youth friendly humor. And, the movie is rated R, not really your classic sign of Disneyesque family night. Not even your typical Touchstone style, though perhaps there are some touched all the same. Haven't seen it, doubt I will. Others can decide for themselves.

There was some movies that people cried about the name of titles. Just surprised they left this one alone.

At first I didn't know where Thunder was coming from with his question #1, as it doesn't seem to carry a negative connotation to it (as say the non-PC term "retarded")

Went ahead and looked it up:
    1. usually offensive : a person affected with extreme mental retardation
    2. a foolish or stupid person
But others put it as a mild rather than extreme form and some had the primary/secondary definitions switched.

The Student Dictionary just has this:
    a silly or foolish person
Haven't seen the movie but I would take it that the title just describes the way the brother behaves. No offense intended Thunder, but haven't you called your own brother such things? Would any of these other words be less objectionable?

    Well . . . HWTJ . . .
I hate to say it, but I think we agree, (doncha know, yah. =)

I saw the trailer for this film in the nicest movie theater that I've ever personally sat in (while waiting for "The Help" to start). It--the theater--was located in "The West End"/St. Louis Park/MN (a location somewhere in the Twin Cities Sprawl that even "Golden Valley" old-timers appreciate). I understand that the Harkins location in Bricktown and that the Cinema in Moore are just as luxurious. But I ain't been to neither of 'em. Not even for a matinee.

At no point during the viewing of the trailer was any objection raised regarding the use of the word Idiot in the title of the film being previewed.

And it is a well known fact that Minnesota is the most Politically Correct state in The Union.
(Where else could Jessie Ventura--a cultural icon of mine--be elected governor?)

    Your point is moot, Thunder.
    (Not to say "Idiotic" =)
