Unfortunately, it still doesn't stop the naysayers. You should read all of the comments at espn.com after this came out. OKC is still being bashed and Durant is being called dumb and manipulated.

Taking note of what our good poster Hot Rod (current resident in Seattle) said that most people in Seattle weren't phased by the relocation of the Sonics and we are going to have critics because we are a breakthrough city in our inital stages of the big leagues.

It goes with the territory and we are just going to have let down our defense sensors and realize that criticism (warranted/unwarranted) does help you. It can be a positive thing.

Our perception is out there and we are not going to change that. Take it for what it is worth and continue to better ourselves as a community and progress forward.

We would have a lot less critics though if we more consistently acted like we wanted to be in the "big leagues..."

He's right. There was definitely a vocal fan base, but the years upon years of mediocre basketball turned most of the populace off.

They have to have something to say. People will hate OKC, period. You're not going to get people thousands of miles away to say, "Oh I'm sorry, I was wrong. The Thunder are an awesome team from an awesome city, and I envy them." Even if it is the truth.

I typically avoid reading comments at the end of any kind of article, anyway. You would think that just having read an article of sorts about something that it would increase someone's ability to seem knowledgeable about something, but some people work the opposite way apparently.

When the Thunder are a threat to win an NBA title in 2 or 3 years (which I think they will be), people will be very envious.

They will be envious and still making negative comments. LOL

Exactly, same as now. We're above that..

Good for Durant. The NBA needs players like him in cities like OKC, just like MLB needs to have MVP-caliber players (i.e. Joe Mauer) playing in cities like Minneapolis.

I'll also say that Durant handled his situation the right way (unlike other "superstars" in the NBA). To me, he seems committed to the organization and committed to Oklahoma City. In Colorado, everyone is questioning whether or not Carmelo is committed to the Nuggets, and I'm one of the ones who thinks he isn't. Next year, he will get out of Denver quicker than Dave Edmunds did in his song.

Durant will succeed because he is trying to be Kevin Durant--the best player he can be... Michael Jordon is who he is because he was trying to be the best and Kevin is in no ways attempting to eclipse Jordon; he is plain and simple Kevin Durant.

It is so unfortunate what has happened to LaBron James; he now has a mighty big hill to climb and he is in a no-win situation!
