OU Architecture and Education Building Construction

I was on campus today and noticed that these two buildings are making some nice progress. The education building looks like it's at least close to being on schedule to open with the fall semester. The exterior of the architecture building is getting there, but nothing is done inside. When is it scheduled for completion? I would guess spring of 2011 or summer of 2011.

They should have started over new with Gould Hall and offered to build a real architecture school.

Heh, heh. I remember studying architecture under the north bleachers on the 2nd floor of Owen Field. Game day was horrific if you had to get out a project.

No we didn't......

My labs were in the basement of the Old Science Hall.

Why? What is it about the renovations to Gould that keep it from becoming a "real" architecture school?

They must be better than Hobby Lobby with computer labs that never have programs that work.

Computers in architecture school weren't even a glint in someone's eye back then.
Heck, my graphics teacher hated lead holders. Plus it was cold, drafty and you had to brush off the snow that blew in the cracks of the windows....I think the old Hobby Lobby building would be much better.

I don't know that I would use the schools computers much anyway, you can build a computer much better and cheaper than schools can and with the free student Autodesk software the largest chunk of the cost is taken care of.

OSU Arch has a lab for younger students, but it is not used much due to the program having minimal computer use for the first 3 years of the program. The 4th & 5th year students buy/build their own.

I'd be pissed if I came to OU as an architecture student and spent my time at OU in a former Hobby Lobby off campus that shares space with a liquor store in a strip mall environment. But thats just me...

That's why I transferred. A lot of people transferred to OSU. A lot of people transferred a little further, such as myself. A lot of people are very loyal to OU and stayed, and not only are getting a great education, but are lucky enough to be a part of (a trying process) forging a new direction and identity for OU Arch.

Part of the problem with OSU Arch, making it less attractive than out of state options, is the lack of a graduate program--though I believe it is a priority for them to develop in their new facility. It's interesting because I thought OU's graduate programs were lacking, but apparently arch is one category where OU > OSU (though clearly not in the quality of the undergrad arch program).

Yeah and in a ton of other areas. OU > OSU in more "categories" than not.
