    Default Mr. Pibb in OKC?

I'm having a hard time finding Mr. Pibb in OKC. Specifically cans, not on tap. I know Chipotle has it on tap, but I'm trying to find cans, but will welcome info on both. I know Quick Trip in Tulsa they carry 12 pack cans. Went to OnCue here in OKC and they don't carry it. Help.

That's an ongoing question that involves a lot of politics. Ask Great Plains Bottling. And please do! If you get a chance, report back what they have to say.

I have found it in bottles at stores on the fringe areas of the metro. The Loves on Hwy 9 and I-35 carried it at one time.

Mr. Pibb is a replacement for Dr. Pepper in markets where the Coca-Cola bottler does not have the rights to manufacture Dr. Pepper.

Great Plains has a monopoly in OKC. Yes, they bottle Dr. Pepper and squash Mr. Pibb except when selling it "cheap" as a fountain substitute.

I'll say this about Great Plains (and it's being nice): They play hardball.

On a whole different subject....does anyone have anecdotal stories about price fixing? (cough) Really! Different subject! (cough)

Actually that was part of the agreement when they took over Dr. Pepper/Seven-Up Bottling. They had to restrict their sale of Sprite and Mr. Pibb to stay in compliance with the agreement and Pepsi has distribution rights for Dr. Pepper fountain syrup/service, that is why you can get Dr. Pepper no matter what company services the fountain. I know in Denver, Dr. Pepper is distributed by Pepsi and you cannot get Dr. Pepper in a Coca-Cola serviced restaurant but you can usually get Mr. Pibb. I think the Seven-Up/Sprite terms were a bit different, for years you could not get Sprite except in the fountain in the OKC metro area but about ten years ago it reappeared in bottles/cans. I get Dublin Dr. Pepper some or the Heritage Dr. Pepper whenever it is available.

I have pretty much cut my consumption of Dr. Pepper in recent months, I typically only have one Mexican Coke or Dr. Pepper a day now.

A very poor replacement, at that!

Fazoli's on NW Expressway has Mr PiBB on tap. I believe it's not being called Mr. PiBB anymore though; think it's now PiBB Xtra.

Soda Finder : Buy Soda Here - Pibb Xtra -- the price is pretty silly though.

Have you tried Crest or Buy For Less? They seem to carry a wider selection of "off" brands than places like WalMart or Homeland.

I saw that when I did a google search, and yes, they now call it Pibb Xtra. I'm also surprised they don't carry it at POPS.

No way Pibb is way better than DP

Metro, Seriously...did you call Great Plains and ask where you can find Mr. Pibb (Pibb Xtra) in Oklahoma City supermarkets?

This seems the obvious thing to do. I'll answer my own question^^^: I guess Metro decided to not call and find out where he can find his drink. Whatever.

Newcastle is the closest place to OKC where you can find Pibb in bottles and cans. Pibb Xtra was created to more closely taste like Dr. Pepper. I always though "Old School" Mr. Pibb was fantastic. Very smooth and more of a cherry/fruity flavor.

While I like DP very much, if I wanted a beverage that tasted more like DP, I'd just drink DP.

Where at in Newcastle? Might have to run over there next time I'm in Norman.

Wal Mart has it. While you're there, I'd suggest you grab a couple of six packs of Dublin Dr. Pepper (only in cans last time I was there).

I will call them, but it seems that you are just wanting to provoke me to call them so I can get some canned answer, as if you know it upsets them.

BUT, Dr. Henry Louis Gates (remember him?) and Mr. William Henry 'Bill' Gates. That dude didn't get his degree either and, well, I'd rather be him.

I'm just kiddin'....I'm a Pepper, too. Remember that jingle?

There are so many Dr Pepper clones out there, and thus, so many web pages out there comparing them all, that I'm not even gonna bother with trying to find the "best" one--I'll just link the first one I find and hope that it's good enough:

    KIBO'S FAKE DR PEPPER ROUNDUP

The choice for the best Dr Pepper knock-off should be fairly obvious.

(Why do you hate our basketball team, "metro"?)

Anyway, I was at Pops today and partook in their Dublin Dr Pepper as my beverage of choice, from the fountain. It was so glorious, it was almost as if I was drinking it straight from the Cup of Christ itself instead of a Styrofoam cup with a Pops logo on it.

Actually, Mr. Pibb and Pibb Xtra are NOT the same. Pibb Xtra is supposed to be a bolder version of Mr. Pibb. My wife who is crazy about Dr. Pepper does not like Mr. Pibb at all but believes Pibb Xtra to be a close approximation of Dr. Pepper. I've tried them both and am inclined to agree with her.

According to wikipedia, Pibb Xtra has cinnamon flavoring in it while Mr. Pibb does not.

The Coca-Cola site also indicates that the drinks are not the same:
