Several Norman fire units responded to a fire call at Astellas Pharma Technologies Sunday evening.

The first unit came on the scene about 8:20 p.m. and shortly thereafter reported smoke in a part of the building while fire alarms sounded.

Two more fire crews were dispatched to the facility, 3300 Marshall Ave. in south Norman. Crews extinguished a fire about an hour after the original call but still were working the scene up to near press time Sunday night.

Astellas has been in the facility since 2005, formed in a merger of Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical Co. and Fujisawa Pharmaceutical Co. Yamanouchi took over the Norman plant from Shaklee Corp. in 2001.
