The Gazzete had Wanda Jacson on it's cover acouple of weeks ago. had a good feature article. She mentioed touring with and dating Elvis.

While I don't remeber it, supposedly Elvis played the civic center back in the
50's Story I always heard as a kid, he did something offensive and was banned from appearing in okc. Anyone know what it was? I do know it was
late 70's before he ever played okc area

I do remeber The Who playing at wedgewood 68-69 crowd was so big
they put them on the roof at the swimningpool building.

Also remeber seeing Frankie Avalon there as well.

Elvis was in OKC at the Fairgrounds Arena in '73 or '74. He sold out faster
than anybody before, at the Fairgrounds that is.

The first concert I ever attended was Steppenwolf in 1968. It was in the
    Civic Center.

I don't recall that one, but seems like he was one of the first
concerts at Loyd Noble, which would have been 76 or 77.

Homer and Jethro were a good act. I have Jethro's mandolin method book.

Have a redneck blow my head off with a shotgun. Pump to be exact.

Prunepicker is going to give me hell for this!!!

All my prior music listings and I just now learned that Okie Hoyt Axton wrote "The Pusher".

    My outlaw pride is crushed.

all right, now I apologize for the bad things I have said....Used to live in Whitney, Texas....Home of Tommy Duncan...His brother was a heck of a lot better singer he just didn't like Bob Wills.....We owned the feed store and it was nothing for Joe Duncan to break into some Western Swing music while the "Old-Timers" played dominoes and ate fresh roasted P-Nuts.....Willie lived in Abbott, Texas and picked Cotton all over Hill County. The place I used to own down there was one of the fields he worked...However, every kid in that county worked in the cotton fields.....The first Fourth of July week-end was held on a friend of mines cotton field...The guy that owned the field kept the concession rights and the parking...Willie got everything else...Bobby , the farmer walked away with 3 HUGE Coleman Ice chests full of Money in banded Stacks...Never did know how much...But, it took three full cotton seasons to kill off the Marijuana plants....

Robert Earl Keen is one of the best singer songwriters to come out in a while.
I've missed him the last coup;e of times he's played in the area.

Funny, I knew that from day one. I always looked to see who wrote what
on any lp I bought. I didn't know Axton was an Okie, though.

Easy Rider was on last night and I just happened to see his name in the credits. Googled to make sure and it's a fact.

Hoyt's mom was a well known songwriter - Heartbreak Hotel and many others - and Hoyt's younger brother John played basketball at OCU when I went to school there. They were from some small town in eastern Oklahoma.

I'm particularly fond of the Ink Spots and their song "I don't want to set the world on fire". Though they are more of a 40s band.

As a young kid, I remember the Ink Spots coming and performing in OKC...I'm probably wrong about the place but the Trianon Ballroom is where I thought they were. My aunt went there quite a bit and that's why it comes to mind...

Sorry to ruin the thread but 'good ole days' music for me would be Dr. Dre's "The Chronic". Brings back memories of 8th grade!

When I was in high school my head basketball coach would always talk about The Who & of course, I'd reply "who's tha who???". I listen to all kinds of music now, and now, I know and have known for a while who The Who is (gotta love that CSI music)! Merl Haggard is my mom's favorite 'old' country star. I actually have her ringer on my cell phone as 'Mama Tried'. To answer your question Dr. Dre is a rapper. I was in 8th grade in '92-'93, lol...
