Watches are important because they put you on alert. The map is good to have because they tell you where the watches are and if you know anything about how weather travels, it gives you an idea where it may be headed. And since we all know how unpredictable storms can be, having a watch in place is very important.
Thunder, on the other hand, accompanies lightning. And lightning, I hope you realize, is quite dangerous. We don't give it a lot of thought, but lightning kills and injures a lot of people every year. This is something we need to know about if it's going on. And frankly, they're not interrupting the show with the weather map, they're just throwing it up there in conjunction with it, right? Let's be grateful we have access to such good, on-the-spot information. Eventually, they'll work out the HD kinks, and probably in the not-so-distant future.
